every table must have an id
Hello, Not sure if this is implied in the documentation or something given: does the RoR framework require "every table must have an id" ? If this is the case, then what happened to the concept of normalization ? Futher, if the tables have already been build for an existing appication ( without ID column in everytable ) , will the script / generate work ? Thanks -- Posted via

Reading from serial port
Hello, I've got RFID card reader plugged in serial port. cat /dev/ttyS0 ...gives me ID of the card I'm using => that's OK As soon as I open the port with win32 appication via wine... I get no data from reader. Even cat /dev/ttyS0 does not work anymore afterwards. I thinks it's because as soon as application opens it via wine some tty flags change: (PS: Of course I created

rsync & smb errors while replacing illegal characters
Hello, Last evening I did this recursive rsync: rsync -avz data /mnt/RICEX0/DWT/Daredevil/1071865403/ ..where data is a regular ext3 soft-RAID1 volume ...where /mnt/RICEX0/ is an NTFS hard-RAID10 volume mounted across VPN using SMB. And received errors that look to be generated by smb while trying to recreate(?) the illegal characters. Dec 20 04:30:55 daredevil kernel: smb_create:

R killed on Solaris
Hello, I am running a preliminary data-processing job on solaris. Basically, the program reads a large number of ascii-lines (about 1M) by blocks (size 25000 lines), selects suitable observations (around 5000) and writes the results into a dataframe for latter processing. The problem is that when I run the job interactively (in emacs/ESS), everything works fine. If I try to run it from shell

Mixing audio
I have received your answer regarding the intention of developing audio mix algorithm based on Speex (a while ago...). You've mentioned two different scenarios. VOIP applications that can manage with high bit-rates can truly mix the audio just once at the receiving client. Today most sound cards can mix the decoded streams automatically (no need for mix software). The real problem is

[Fwd: dvd+rw-format -force problem]

Formally speaking blanking is not appicable to DVD+RW. dvd+rw-format -force merely zeros bitmap which describes which ECC blocks were de-iced/written to and nullifies few blocks in the beginning of the media. It's not what one would normally consider as [full] blanking. If you want to nullify the media, e.g. for privacy reasons, 'dvd...

Question: traffic shaping (tc-htb)
Hello *! My trafficshaping (tc-htb) drops packets very early, at least i suspect this. It drops about 30% fo the packets. The traffic-generating appication is running locally on the shaping host. I think i can lower this rate by increasing the packet-buffer, because the locally application will slow down with increasing buffer (tcp/ip). But i canĀ“t find any options for that, i cycled the manual

Question regarding X11 forwarding implementation
Hi, I am using openssh 4.1 on AIX. I have noticed a strange behaviour with openssh X11 forwarding with respect to connection termination. The behaviour is seen during connection termination between the pseudo X11 socket (say 6010) opened by sshd on server which interacts with the X11 client application socket. I have compared the behaviour of two X11 applications 1. xterm 2. wish (tcl/tk

rake db:migrate fail! bad descriptor
Dear All, I am just getting into Ruby on Rails, after successfully failing at getting any other programming language to work locally. RoR appears to be a repeat! One problem I keep running into is getting a database up and running. I''m working out of Windows XP. I installed MySQL, it works, runs, will create tables etc. BUT, when I do rake db:migrate...it fails and tells me I have a
