every table must have an id
Hello,
Not sure if this is implied in the documentation or something given:
does the RoR framework require "every table must have an id" ? If this
is the case, then what happened to the concept of normalization ?
Futher, if the tables have already been build for an existing
appication ( without ID column in everytable ) , will the script /
generate work ?
Thanks

Reading from serial port
Hello,
I've got RFID card reader plugged in serial port.
cat /dev/ttyS0 ...gives me ID of the card I'm using => that's OK
As soon as I open the port with win32 appication via wine... I get no data from reader. Even cat /dev/ttyS0 does not work anymore afterwards.
I thinks it's because as soon as application opens it via wine some tty flags change:
(PS: Of course I created symlinks in .wine/dosdevices/com[1-4] -> /dev/ttyS[0-3] )it changes some flags:...

R killed on Solaris
...ll be killed after around 100 000 lines. Solaris says
simply "killed" and thats it. The total memory consumption seems not

Any suggestions? Has anyone else seen something similar?
Best wishes

Mixing audio
...t-rates can truly mix the audio just once at
the receiving client. Today most sound cards can mix the decoded streams automatically (no need for mix software).
The real problem is decoding mixing and than rencoding (where bit-rate count...).
>From my experience as a VOIP (and video conference) appication developer I still think that mixing few audio streams in software is a major problem trying to keep audio quality...

Formally speaking blanking is not appicable to DVD+RW. dvd+rw-format
-force merely zeros bitmap which describes which ECC blocks were
de-iced/written to and nullifies few blocks in the beginning of the
media. It's not what one would normally consider as [full] blanking. If
you want to nullify the media, e.g. for privacy reasons, '...

Question: traffic shaping (tc-htb)
Hello *!
My trafficshaping (tc-htb) drops packets very early, at least i suspect
this. It drops about 30% fo the packets. The traffic-generating appication
is running locally on the shaping host. I think i can lower this rate by
increasing the packet-buffer, because the locally application will slow down
with increasing buffer (tcp/ip). But i canĀ“t find any options for that, i
cycled the manual several times. Is there a solution?

It's a dbus service.

Alas, because it?s not available for CentOS 6, none of the
above is available/appicable, so I?m back to square one.

Question regarding X11 forwarding implementation
...r is seen during connection termination between the pseudo X11
socket (say 6010) opened by sshd on server which interacts with the
X11 client application socket.
I have compared the behaviour of two X11 applications
1. xterm
2. wish (tcl/tk application)
Let's start with xterm. Now when xterm appication wants to terminate the
connection, it starts with
sending "Fin" to the pseudo X11 socket. Now although this Fin get's ack'd
but I don't think that the
sshd polls this socket for the eof (end of conection request from the X11
client application). Even after receiving
a Fin...

installing DNL e-book reader
Hi,
I'm trying to install DNL Reader , which is a Windows file. I have had no luck in getting it to install.
I'm running Karmic Koala.
Also, I'm rather new to Ubuntu. And not sure how capable I am with using Wine either (I haven't been able to add any appications to run on Wine. I can go to the configure Wine window, add the program and then what?
Does DNL Reader exist for linux or some simple workaround for reading password protected e-books with .dnl extensions?
Thanks!
Raffi

I tried installing it in terminal with the command:

rake db:migrate fail! bad descriptor
Dear All,
I am just getting into Ruby on Rails, after successfully failing at
getting any other programming language to work locally. RoR appears to
be a repeat! One problem I keep running into is getting a database up
and running.
I''m working out of Windows XP.
I installed MySQL, it works, runs, will create tables etc. BUT, when I
do rake db:migrate...it fails and tells me I have a
