APM and suspend to swap
I have been delving into how to get this HP NC4010 to suspend. I think
the practice of just closing the unit for 15+ min inside my backpack as
I move to the next meeting is what cooked my drive...
So it seems that Debian users have been successful with APM:
http://www.proulx.com/~bob/nc4000/ and http://www.gag.com/~bdale/nc4000/
So my Centos related questions are:
I need to turn acpi=off

Disabling services in CentOS 5.5
...5 (fully updated) install running
under VMware (esx, I believe). We are not sharing directories via nfs
or samba (either from or to this virtual machine).
>From my research, the services that I am thinking of turning off are:
nfs (already off)
nfslock
portmap
rpccgssd
rpcidmapd
rpcsvcgssd
apcid
apmd
mdmpd
mdmonitor
Is there any reason that I need to leave any of these services
running? Are there others that I should disable as well?
Any feedback about this would be greatly appreciated.

install on via 800mhz box 4.4
I tried install 4.4 on an old Via 800mhz box. i386 of course.
The installer dies pretty quick.
I thought the via was i386 compatible?
Is there something special to do.

Trimming the fat out of a Centos 4.4 Installation
Hi, just to avoid re-inventing the wheel, is there any document that
can help me reduce even further a "minimum" installation of Centos 4.4

I am in the process of creating a small Centos-4.4-based Asterisk box
and I need to boot it from a CF card. Deleting useless packages will
help me do what i want.

Lock-up on Thinkpad on AC power restore
...when the machine comes
back up.
Today I caught the event in the act. While the machine was booting, the
AC power failed (bad storm here). The machine continued the boot process
on battery power for several seconds. Then the AC power was restored and
the machine locked up in mid-action. The apmd driver had not yet loaded
yet so it can't be blamed for the lock-up.
Previous to installing CentOS4 I had RHL v9 on this machine. In that
environment the cycling of power from AC to battery back to AC caused
only a few notes in the system log.
Can anyone shed some light on how I can avoid...

RPM
Hi All,
Is there any sign of a Samba 2.2.2 RPM for Red
Hat 7.0 in our future?
If not, there is a possibility that I could create
one at one of my RH 7.0 customer site. All I would
need is instructions on how to upload it to you.
Many thanks,

Help Slim Down Centos Install
Hello Everyone,
I was wondering does anyone know how I can slim down Centos install,
what I mean by slim down is whenever I install Centos with nothing but
xen. I have all type stuff that is not needed like bluetooth and etc.
This is a server, so I know that bluetooth is not need but I don't have
any other menus to remove software when install from cd. So what would
be the best way to slim

that unfortunately means teh system wont do a real poweroff if the UPS
instructs it to.
dropped down to 2.4.31 kernel and the problem seems to have gone away
so I think your right, its the 2.6.x kernel doing what it should,
regrettably we dont want it to :)
