aoss no sound in steam
When I run aoss winecfg and use the test sound option, I hear sound. When I run aoss wine Steam.exe however, there is no sound at all. No sound is in any game either. I am running Wine 1.2 in Debian Squeeze (32bit). Has anyone come across this issue and resolved it?

wine and alsa oss emulation with aoss
...cause of my usb sound card and alsa doesn?t support mmap access. there are some workarounds like writing something to proc files, but this doesn?t work for me (and seems to not work for others). so mmap acces can be emulated in doing hacks in the asound.rc file and userspace oss emulation via the aoss script. now wine doen?t run under aoss script. it stops after the attached WINEDEBUG=all do you have any hint?s, fixes or is it a known problem? thanks a lot and all the best christoph -- dipl.-ing. christoph kunz fraunhofer institut fuer arbeitswirtschaft und organisation competence cente...

pulseaudio wine
Hi. I can confirm that pulse does indeed work quite well with wine. I've been using oss emulation and padsp together for a long time now, and I've had very few if any problems with it. I simply use Code: aoss padsp wine whatever and it's fine. I don't know if I need to use padsp after aoss after reading this thread, but it's what I've been doing. So pulse does mostly work after all, if only I didn't need to preface everything with these commands.

No sound using OSS in Steam games
Whenever I change the sound driver from ALSA to OSS in winecfg all of my steam games are muted. Some of the games doesn't even start, some of them start but are totally silent with OSS. I installed a couple of non-steam games into the same wineprefix, interestingly they can use both sound systems. So this issue is applied only to steam games. If I apply the WINEDEBUG=+dsound parameter when

Trackmania through steam
I just installed steam+TMN and it seems to run quite well apart from sound. I tried switching to OSS and got not sound while on ALSA I get the occasional "click" and thats about it. Other software I have run through wine is WAR beta and WoW both of which play sound fine, so I suspect maybe Steam is holding up the sound device or something? I am on Ubuntu Hardy. I also used winetricks

wine monopolizes the sound
...en wine do not play any sound. I am using pulseaudio, debian sid 64 bits and I can play several sounds at the same time. This problem happen even if pulseaudio is disabled, and with every wine version I tried (1.0.1, 1.2.3, 1.3.24). I've seen a lot of posts saying to run wine through padsp or aoss, but when I do it, I get the following errors: with aoss: ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libaoss.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. with padsp: ERROR: ld.so: object 'libpulsedsp.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. The problem stays exactly the same (so...

Linux Sound Architecture (Updated)
I forgot the most important part in the original, the kernel! (I hope the ASCII art doesn't get mangled) I have been working a while trying to get a big picture of how Linux handles sound processing and after much work I have put together this little representation of what I have learned. Please send me any additional comments or components that I may have missed. I hope it helps somebody

No sound in Wine under OSS after update.
Hey guys, Under Wine v1.1.14, my audio worked perfectly in World of Warcraft using the aoss wrapper. Today I updated to Wine v1.1.15 and to my surprise... No audio under OSS. ALSA works just fine except for the 2 second sound delay on everything (very annoying known issue). I've tried swapping sound cards, increasing my sound buffer size, reverting back to Wine 1.1.14, and reinstallin...

cannot access winecfg/Drive with .wine made with 1.1.18
...ecfg the processes "wineserver" and "services.exe" remain active. If I try to use an older folder , converted to 1.1.18 but created with wine 1.1.17 , it works without any of these problems. I've tried removing every trace of pulseaudio from my computer, using pasuspender, aoss, etc and nothing seems to change.

Playing Games with Wine while listening to music
I have this problem: When playing a PC game via wine while listening to music with let's say Amarok, there's no sound in the PC game anymore. It's like the sound channel is occupied by the music player so wine cannot playback any soundfiles. Sounds are working if I play a Linux game like Nexuiz while running some music via a music player (ok, completely different, I know, but

Wine Success and Failure report
...as a 1~3 second delay and also some sound-distortion (I did get microphone to work here). So what could I do? padsp worked but not for everything (Steam and Source didn't work, aswell as Movies). Besides, padsp sometimes crashes my Ubuntu System when used with Wine. I hit a post talking about aoss and esd (just by meere luck) and I thought: "Hey, what If I got sound to go through Alsa before it goes into Pulseaudio?). BINGO! Instead of using padsp, I use aoss. This makes the sound go from Wine (with OSS driver) Into Alsa, and then into Pulseaudio and, finally to my 5.1 sound system! ao...

Dawn of War alert sounds not working
Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with wine 1.1.22, and I've got a problem with dawn of war original. When I load up a skirmish or multiplayer game, the sounds that a unit or building make when clicked on do not play. In addition, the sounds made when a unit is taking fire for example, don't play either. When I reload the skirmish game again, everything works fine. I've got no idea

Wine 1.1.28 on Mandriva - PulseAudio? - Only get OSS option
Is there any way I can get PulseAudio working with Wine 1.1.28? I just compiled (first install on this OS) of Wine from the website, and I only had the choice of OSS as my driver. Surprisingly this made a test sound, but as I thought it does not work at the same time as Pulse. So how can I get Pulse, ESound, ALSA support for a compiled version of Wine on Mandriva 2009.1?

No sound in Wine
Hello I'm using Debian Squeeze, with my personal compiled Wine-1.3.17. Games run well with this version I think but... I can't seem to get sound working in Wine. Native linux apps like VLC work with sound. Winecfg says "Audio test failed" if I try that. I can only see the OSS driver though I believe I am using ALSA(not sure though). [Image:

Alsa: underrun occured
I've seen a couple topics that deal with this error, but they're all really old and they didn't help, so I'll just create this. I'm trying to get audio to work. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04. Sound works for everything but wine. I open winecfg to test the sound, but get nothing and along with this in the terminal: Code: err:alsa:wine_snd_pcm_recover underrun occurred Now
