loess documentation
...t is 10 meters from the farthest data
point in physical space and I set my alpha = 2, then according to the
statement above the smoothing window would be 20m???? Obviously this
can't be right. Where have I gone wrong?

configure/make problems
...et `R'
Any ideas? I've specified /moriarty/Tools/R-1.1.1 as the prefix in the
configure script. It's difficult for me to tell if this is a install
problem or something with the way my local environment is set up. Any
help would be appreciated.

need help with smooth.spline
Dear R listers,
When using smooth.spline to interpolate data, results are generally
good. However, some cases produce totally unreasonable results.
The data are values of pressure, temperature, and salinity from a
probe that is lowered into the ocean, and the objective is to
