Kickstart User Guide in PDF & DVI format
Hi all. I have uploaded a PDF and DVI version of the Kickstart manual for anyone to download and use. I created this for my own personal use when learning to write kickstart files. You can grab the bits from here: http://www.karsites.net/centos/anyuser/kickstart-PDF-manual.php Feedback or any errata welcomed so I can keep this up to date. Kind Regards, Keith Roberts ----------------------------------------------------------------- Websites: http://www.php-debuggers.net http://www.karsites.net http://www.raised-from-the-dead.org.uk All email...

Openssh + AFS
The native authentication methods of openssh are (not counting insecure RhostsRSAAuthentication) 1) public key 2) password For users with home dirs in AFS space, method 1) does not work. Except with (non foolproof) fiddling on the access controls within the home directory. This might lead to security issues when done by inexperienced users. Without some work, only 2) remains. I have samba 3.0.0-1 server running as a PDC, laptop x and workstation y Now when i am logged in as the DOMAIN\*anyuser and i go to control panel user accounts; it says that the user does not have the needed permissions and asked for user/password/domain. smbpasswd problem on Solaris-10
I have compiled both samba-3.0.25a and samba-3.0.25b and with both I have problems setting user password longer than 8 chars with smbpasswd. I get no errors, but if I try to set a password with more than 8 chars the password will only be generated using the first 8 chars. This is on Solaris-10 update 3 on amd64 and I have compiled samba using Sun Studio 11 compiler suite and no other options to

weird situation with pop3/imap proxy and postfix authentication
...s defined on dovecot confs as: service auth { unix_listener auth-userdb { mode = 0600 user = mail group = mail } # Postfix smtp-auth unix_listener /var/spool/postfix/private/auth { mode = 0660 user = postfix group = postfix } } and it seems to be allowing ANYuser on any domain listed on the imapproxy table domains to login, even if the user does not exists or provides wrong password. In fact, it seems dovecot returns OK to postfix even without trying to contact the assigned server to that domain, as i cannot find any password-failed-specific log to that...

"Inherited Permissions" vs "Force/Create Mask"
I have written to this list several times. I purchased the Officia SAMBA 3 How-To and Reference Guide (and read much of it). But I can't get a good answer to my question. I'm trying to figure out the difference between "inherited permissions" and "force/create mask/directory", and other actions like "force user" and "force group" (it seems I

two cents or not two cents
Hello Producers "Longevity of Support" is an attractive drawcard for CentOS if it means the exact opposite of Fedora's "short support cycle" that does not provide updating of infrastructural libraries for very long, libraries which newer versions of applications (like Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera etc) depend on and which wont install unless the libraries are also newer

looking for cool, post-install things to do on a centos 5.5 system
(note: i asked this a few days ago but it *appears* that that post was tossed due to getting excessive bounces from my account. so i'm posting it again, apologies if you're seeing it a second time.) over the next several weeks, i'm teaching some courses in RHEL admin but (unsurprisingly) i'll be using centos 5.5. it's a decently-written, 3rd party course, all the generic,

Samba4 DC/AD documents created in redirected folders with bogus UID
I just noticed that my fresh install of Samba 4.2.3 has the same behaviour. I have a share (\\samba\it_share)) and some users when creating files have the UID as 3000000 and some have their correct UIDs. Share permissons are being controlled by Windows ACLs.
