memory once again
...I asked this list why small Stata files became huge R files. Thomas Lumley said it was because "Stata uses single-precision floating point by default and can use 1-byte and 2-byte integers. R uses double precision floating point and four-byte integers." And it seemed I couldn't do anythig about it. Is it true? I mean, isn't there a (more or less simple) way to change how R stores data (maybe by changing the source code and compiling it)? The reason why I insist in this point is because I am trying to work with a data frame with more than 820.000 observations and 80 variables...

This error occures with Pauls Boot CD (pbcd) basing on syslinux, too. What shall I do? Using the debuging Version doesn't help an doesn't tell anythig. Because of the following Kernel Panic because of finding no root (Please give an init=, or so) fs I can't tell you what happens before. My Machine: Athlon700, Gigabyte GA 7IX, 256MB Ram I'm Using Kernel Version 2.5.3. mfg Bj?rn Brings

Upgrade from Puppet 2.7.20 to latest !!!
Dear All, I have my puppet servers and clients on puppet 2.7.20 and I am planning to upgrade to the latest version. But the problem is that I have a lot of modules (downloaded from forge and few of my own) which used by hundreds of puppet clients. I need to know 1) Will the functionality of these modules get affected after this upgrade ? 2) Other than ritual of being on the latest verison, are

Strip location and grid colour in Lattice
...names in them) to be below the graph. Is there anyway of achieving this. Secondly, from a more personal note I find the grid formed by the axes to be a bit overpowering and would like to make it a little less bold by changing it to a grey of some kind. I can't see that the scales options have anythig in their that I could use. I can change the label colours and tick marks, but then I draw a blank. While I'm on a role, I find that quite often I have to resort to the at and label sections of the scales function to get my tickmarks looking OK. This seems to be when am producing line graphs...

'NO' 'Unknown error'
...P command: UID COPY 232 Archive/Notifications The same program works fine with other directories and messages. This is the response from the dovecot server: ('NO', ['Unknown error']) Do you have an idea what is the problem? This error message is very cryptic, it does not tell anythig about what is causing the problem and how to fix it. By the way, I'm using dovecot-1.0.r7_2 on FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE. I cannot upgrade to a newer - I had to downgrade to r7 before because dovecot did not find the inboxes of my POP3s users. (But it did find the same inboxes for my IMAPs users...

FLAC compression experiment
Hi FLAC team. I feel I have found a super high compression way of FLAC. I have tested a 1 hour WAV file of 440HTZ with a 5,25,50,75,100 normalize volume preset. This dramatically changes the compression size of the end FLAC file even though the WAV file size is identical for all 5 WAV files. Only the volume is different. When you renormalize the WAV to its original volume the file is still 100%
