Antialiasing plots and text on different devices
...uestion about antialiasing when R generates bitmaps. (This follows a thread on the ggplot2 mailing list.) I mostly use R on Linux, although I sometimes use it in Mac and Windows as well. On Linux, I've found that plotting shapes 15-18 via cairo results in bad-looking output. The points are not antialiased, and they are jagged and misshapen. Plots generated in Windows also aren't antialiased, but at least the vector shapes seem to be aligned to pixel boundaries so that the raster images look consistent. You can see this in the scatterplots I've posted here: http://stdout.org/~winston/X/r-ant...

Antialiasing?
Does wxRuby support font antialiasing on Linux or does it depend on the underlying toolkit? If not, are there plans to include it? If I use wxGTK, is antialiasing automatically enabled? Do I have to do something to make my fonts antialiased? Bill

JGR and font antialiasing
Hi, I've noticed that font antialiasing is enabled in the console window, but not in the editor windows. I'm using R version 2.12.1. JGR 1.7.4 and the jdk from Ubuntu 10.04, which claims to be: OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.5) (6b20-1.9.5-0ubuntu1~10.04.1). Is that a problem with my installation? Has someone else noticed that issue? Regards, Matthias

Antialiased text
One new thing I have found with Wine 0.9.17 is the inclusion of anitaliased text. Winecfg et. al. now have their text antialiased. I don't know if this is a new feature (i'll go dig in the ChangeLogs), but it is a significant improvement in the user experience. -- The real problem with C++ for kernel modules is: the language just sucks. -- Linus Torvalds

No antialiasing with 2.7.0
Finally, the RPMs for 2.7.0 arrived, but it looks like they were not built against the Cairo libs, at least not on F8 (based on the reports, I should probably wait a couple of weeks before upgrading to F9). > capabilities() jpeg png tcltk X11 aqua http/ftp sockets libxml TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE FALSE TRUE TRUE TRUE fifo cledit

Fallout New Vegas - Antialiasing
Hello, I'm running Fallout New Vegas in Wine with (a lot of) help from Playonlinux. I have to say it is running very well and I'm have very few critical failures like I was having with the game in Windoze; many quirks, but few critical failures. Which is awesome. I'm wondering though, if anyone else who's got FONV working has found a way to initiate anti-aliasing in the game. For

How to disable font antialiasing?
Hi I was trying to run mu-online, I'm using wine 1.3.10 under kubuntu 10.04 The game installs(with vcrun2005,vcrun2008 and mcf42 from winetricks) But I can't see the fonts. To see the fonts I read I have to disable anti-aliasing, this was possible in older versions of wine, but for some reasons it was disabled, or moved, any idea on how I can disable anti-aliasing? It's not a

sprucing up the R homepage
I've been a R-user for quite some time. The graphic on the home page looks a bit in need of polish so I applied some antialiased transformations that Peter Dalgaard has previously posted to R-help for improving graphic quality. I had to change the margins a bit, but here is what it looks like: http://www.broad.mit.edu/~finnyk/Rhome.jpg Personally, I think it looks much better. Because people so often "judge a book b...

postscript image problem (PR#6763)
Full_Name: Jonathan Lees Version: 1.8.1 OS: GNU/Linux 2.4.20-20.8smp #1 SMP Submission from: (NULL) (152.2.75.114) I am having trouble with the postscript output of images. They have lines on them that are not supposed to be there. I have noticed this on numerous trials of printing various images. I looked at the postscript and I see that it appears to plot each individual block - so perhaps

How to notify a native linux client for a piece of software?
Hello everyone, As some of you may know, ET:QW (www.enemyterritory.com) now has a native Linux client with every game feature (except AntiAliasing on some PCs :p) implemented. My question is the following : knowing the WineHQ AppDB says the game is Bronze/Garbage and no recent version was tested under Wine, shall i make a test report in which i write there is a native linux client, and thus it

MS Office Word - small fonts are aliased
Hi, I installed MS Word 2007 on Debian Lenny using the latest Wine 1.3.20 - everything seems running ok. The only thing that I don't like are the fonts. I enabled with winetricks the font smoothing, but.... Some of them (Times New Roman, Calibri, expecially) still look aliased at given dimensions (12pt and below): increasing their size solves the problem and they become anti-aliased, but this

Anti-aliasing?
I''m doing a graphics application and need onscreen anti-aliasing for both lines and text. Seems like wxGraphicsContext would do that, is that planned to be ported to wxRuby? Best regards, Jari Williamsson

Unsightly lines from x*y grid in levelplot with Postscript
When I generate levelplot figures with Postscript, the lines from the underlying grid (i.e., the x and y in z ~ x* y) show up as faint white lines in the output. If I have a dense grid, the lines wash out the contour colors. I can avoid the problem if I use png instead, but that brings up other problems. Any ideas for how I can get Postscript to not show those lines around the cells? Scott

Font anti-aliasing in wine?
One of the things that DOES make a big difference for me is font-antialiasing (AA). (OK, maybe I am picky). Does anyone have experience/knowledge on that subject? What surprises me is that for a few fonts (BitStream Vera Sans, for instance), it is active, whereas it is completely absent for most others. Why is that? (BTW, I just found out that I get the best results so far for the new MS font

Gnome interface status report
...ver has). I've changed Makefile.in to the new system, which is very cool. What I want to work on now is: - Graphics. I want to move to the Gnome canvas for this, which should be reasonably easy. This will give us rotated text (which I never got going properly before) and the option for antialiased graphics. However, there are some unimplemented bits in the canvas (and the antialiasing is currently a bit buggy), so this may take a while to get going properly. - Printing. This will hopefully include chucking text (like the console and help pages) to the print spooler, and somehow maki...
