Problem/anomalous behavior with image() function (and ReadImages?)

anomalous wtmp logging bug
I've noticed rather strange wtmp logging behavior in sshd. Can anyone confirm or solve the following: Once a user authenticates themself to sshd, sshd among other things records the login in the wtmp, which `last` reads. However, sshd logs hostnames which are longer than 16 characters instead of IPs like normal programs would. As a result, I have useless entries such as: tempest

choose() function returning anomalous results (zero instead of one)

Anomalous outputs from rbeta when using two different random number seeds
Hi, in the code below, I am drawing 1000 samples from two beta distributions, each time using the same random number seed. Using set.seed(80) produces results I expect, in that the differences between the distributions are very small. Using set.seed(20) produces results I can't make sense of. [LLVMdev] -msse3 can degrade performance
I just remembered an anomalous result that I stumbled upon whilst tweaking the command-line options to llvm-gcc. Specifically, the -msse3 flag does a great job improving the performance of floating point intensive code on the SciMark2 benchmark but it also degrades the performance of the int-intensive Monte Carlo part of the test: $ llvm-gcc -Wall -lm -O3 *.c -o scimark2 $ ./scimark2 Using

Interesting behaviour of Win2k explorer with Samba 2.0.6
We've recently added a win2k (rc2) system to our local network and have noticed some strange behaviour with explorer on that system when samba network drives are attached. If you examine a local drive, or one exported from an NT4 server, explorer behaves as expected (I won't say "normally"...). The itemize command in *.Rd files.
I'm getting an anomalous result from using the itemize command in a documentation file. is.environment, as.environment, and NULL
The r-devel (1.4) code has C implementations now of the class and class<- functions in package methods, and also of as.environment.
