chfn, date, chsh INFECTED according to chkrootkit
I ran chkrootkit ( v. chkrootkit-0.43 ) earlier and noticed that chfn, date, and chsh showed as being infected. I remember reading post from the past that right now chkrootkit is giving alot of false positives, so I suspected that these 3 binaries are not bad. However, to be on the safe side, I deleted the 3 binaries, removed /usr/src and did a 'make world' to 4.10-STABLE. But, chfn,

Model validation when using ajax & form_remote_tag...
...e issue by calling this method when a begin & rescue trap is called: def render_error(object = '''', status = 500) render(:text => (object.errors.full_messages.join(", ") rescue object.to_s), :status => status) end Throwing a 500 status error stops that annyoing "cannot find template" message. This just renders text to the browser. Not very nice really. I want the SAME form as the error_messages_for gives. There should be a better solutions to this to give comminality to error messages across an application. I have tried using a helper metho...

Information Window - Warning Message
Hi all, this might be a very stupid question, but I tried for several hours now and I'm helpless. I'm running windows and R 2-2-1. Recently, every time when I have an error in my code a message box pops up telling me the error message. The code won't continue before I click ok in the box. Before I changed to 2-2-1 the code was just running through and I could check within the command

samba upload crashes system
...not find any entry in the logs. Everything else works fine, the kernel usually is stable except this samba issue. How do I hunt down this problem? thanks for any help, JPT Software details: I've got SuperCopier 2.2 Beta on windows which handles all file copies from explorer to avoid those annyoing Explorer bugs when doing SMB transfers. But this problem also happens if I use other tools to transfer. Logging logins with preexec and Samba/LDAP
Hi all, I had the following line in my smb.conf with which to log access to the home share when users logged in: preexec = /bin/echo \"%u logged in to %m at %T\" >> /var/log/samba/logons.log Since updating to LDAP however, it's stopped working and I suspect that smbldap cant handle the % substitutions for user, machine and time. Has anyone else run into this problem? If

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

Access denied/WERR_ACCESS_DENIED on Printer Properties/rpcclient
hello to everyone, I'm experiencing an annyoing problem with a shared printer (managed by samba 3.0.20b-3.4 on Linux - SuSe). The problem is that I cannot modify any of the printer settings (e.g. Location, etc. and of course the driver to use). I've successfully uploaded the correct driver with the APW in the print$ share. The printer data/s...

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators, While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the
