Inserting rows into linking table
Hi,
I have two objects:
Contacts
Lists
I want to be able to add multiple contacts to multiple lists.
I''ve created a linking table and a form that allows me to select the
contacts using checkboxes, but I''m having some problems with the
controller and model.
I receive the following error message when I submit the form:
Mysql::Error: Cannot add or update a child row: a

Lockup with (none) login
I had a CentOS 5.5 Xen "standard virtualization" install lockup on
reboot after an battery backup (apcusbd) orderly shutdown induced by a
power outage. It may have been sitting with two kernel updates without a
reboot.
I have to head to the site (with a fractured ankle), but reports
indicate that it is at
- (none) login:
which only returns back to itself after a user login at console,
including root.
- the local user says, though the monitor speed was "too fast" that it
is failing to find its mounts OR that the disk reported errors.
It is on a dm...

Lucene & Solr
Hi all,
I've been asked to prepare a comparison of Lucene/Solr and Xapian and
I'm trying to find some differences between the two. I'm not that
familiar with Lucene myself but I expect there are lots of people who
will have looked at both before ending up on this mailing lists.
Can anyone help? I'm looking for both differences between the two
systems and perhaps the reasons

YASNPP - Yet Another Stupid Newbie Printing Problem
...nally seemed to have got Samba working-ish. My Windoze machines can
see files on the Linux box and, for the most part, that's good enough
for me. I do, however, have a need to print from the Linux box and it's
this requirement that's causing grief. Please excuse my ignorance but
I'm ankle-deep in FAQs, tips&trix, how-tos, etc and am now completely
confused.
I added both of the printers using the Printer Config app (running KDE)
and they both printed test pages just fine.
If I start up the KDE Text Editor and print (the 'services' file being
long enough for a decent te...

daemon use-case questions
...instance of a proper Logger. I''ve also redirected STDOUT/STDERR by using
reopen(). Pow!
I''m worried, though -- isn''t this going to break something? I haven''t seen
anything that''s obviously broken, but I''m only two days into the effort, and
only ankle-deep in the code. I need enlightenment.
2) I want to know if it dies, so that I can restart it and send myself an
email.
With OpenWFEru I have a wrapper script which invokes the daemon via system()
and watches for unsuccessful exit codes. Is there an equivalent
best-practice for this in the BDRB...

Selinux extra packages and compiled apps
Hey,
I am in the process of trying (and convincing my colleagues) to learn/setup
selinux as we switch to 6.0...
Quick question: do I really "need" to install the setools/setroubleshoot
packages or can I live without them?? They want to install 80 packages
(gnome stuff, gstreamer, gtk, tcl/tk...) and I would like to avoid installing
all sort of graphical tools/libs on my lean

Minimize sshd log clutter/spam from unauthenticated connections
Dear OpenSSH developers,
a publicly accessible sshd on port 22 generates a lot of log clutter
from unauthenticated connections. For an exemplary host on a university
network, sshd accumulates 5~20k log lines on a single day (more than 90%
of the total amount of syslog lines). That is despite the host having a
restricted configuration (no SSH password authentication, firewall rate

Gem versioning and auto installs
Gem drives me daft sometimes.
It gives you this wonderful ability to specify a platform for a gem, but
forgets to provide a command line switch to select the platform. Politely it
asks you, which is all very well when you are installing on one machine
interactively, but no good at all on a cluster of 15 machines from a
Capistrano script.
Is there any way to get gem to automatically select the

Dan is absolutely right.

That's not a reason to break them more. If you can't prove they're
correct, you can't prove you broken them more, especially on other
arches.
