Hello, I have attempted several times to compile openssh3.1p1 that will use a random package called ANDIrand. How can I compile and get ssh to use this random number generator? I have tried the --rand-helper switch with my configure and still it does not work. I am compiling in Solaris 8, and need to then create a package that can be used on Solaris 6, Solaris 7, and Solaris 8. Thanks, Eric Secrist

I've installed Sun's SUNWski package on Solaris 8 (32-bit) that provides a /dev/random interface. It appears to as cat'ing it gives me a bunch of well, random data. However, when I ran my configure, it gives me the WARNING.RND message to the effect that I'm using the built-in. When I run the configure, it reports that Random Number Source is set to use the rand-helper. If I use the ANDIrand Solaris package as my /dev/random, It configures properly (Random Number Source is set to OpenSSL internal ONLY). Has anyone else run into this problem? ...production, and Sun is not making a /dev/[u]random for Solaris 2.x < Sol9 - that seems pretty clear. Maybe some day when we have upgraded all the production boxes to Sol10 (Solaris 8+ doesn't run on older machines tho'), THEN we can just use /dev/[u]random for OpenSSH. Until then, the ANDIrand solution doesn't run on just ANY version of Solaris, and that IMO is worse than a stock Solaris ssh_prng_cmds file. PRNGD is a nice tool and a "good" solution for Solaris - but you still have to worry about making it run the right set of commands, just like in the ssh_prng_cmds file...
