Compiling OPENssh to use random package
Hello,
I have attempted several times to compile openssh3.1p1 that will use a
random package called ANDIrand. How can I compile and get ssh to use this
random number generator? I have tried the --rand-helper switch with my
configure and still it does not work. I am compiling in Solaris 8, and need
to then create a package that can be used on Solaris 6, Solaris 7, and
Solaris 8.
Thanks,
Eric Secrist

scp 3.1p1 problem on Solaris
I have removed ANDIrand from my Solaris8 system and installed patch
112438-01 which provides native /dev/random and /dev/urandom devices.
Recompiled both openssl-0.9.6c and openssh-3.1p1, restarted sshd.
Now I seem unable to use scp, and connections to the local sshd appear
to be very slow.

getting OpenSSH/OpenSSL to utilize /dev/random
I've installed Sun's SUNWski package on Solaris 8 (32-bit) that provides a
/dev/random interface. It appears to as cat'ing it gives me a bunch of
well, random data.
However, when I ran my configure, it gives me the WARNING.RND message to the
effect that I'm using the built-in. I've seen allusions on this list to
building openssl with to get random support, so I rebuilt it

OpenSSH-3.1p1 Solaris build with /dev/random
...blem building 3.1p1 with Solaris 8 (2/02 release)?
That release of Solaris was the first (I believe) to incorporate their own
/dev/random which OpenSSH 3.1 doesn't seem to like too much. When I run
the configure, it reports that Random Number Source is set to use the
rand-helper. If I use the ANDIrand Solaris package as my /dev/random, It
configures properly (Random Number Source is set to OpenSSL internal
ONLY). Has anyone else run into this problem?

OpenSSH 2.3.0p4/2.2.0p1, Solaris 8, ssh-keygen bus error
...with Sun's as/ld (I do not have
a WorkShop C licence), either built from source or obtained from Sun's
"companion" CD (gcc only; they don't ship binutils).
- OpenSSL 0.9.5a and 0.9.6, built from source.
- OpenSSH 2.3.0p4 and 2.2.0p1, built from source.
I'm using the ANDIrand (http://www.cosy.sbg.ac.at/~andi/) package to
provide /dev/random, rather than EGD or SUNWski. ssh and sshd appear to be
working as advertised, but key generation fails consistantly.
I'm planning on trying the 10/00 Solaris 8 release as soon as I get a
chance to download it from Sun.

Entropy and DSA key
...production, and Sun
is not making a /dev/[u]random for Solaris 2.x < Sol9 - that seems pretty
clear. Maybe some day when we have upgraded all the production boxes to
Sol10 (Solaris 8+ doesn't run on older machines tho'), THEN we can just
use /dev/[u]random for OpenSSH. Until then, the ANDIrand solution doesn't
run on just ANY version of Solaris, and that IMO is worse than a stock
Solaris ssh_prng_cmds file.
PRNGD is a nice tool and a "good" solution for Solaris - but you still
have to worry about making it run the right set of commands, just like in
the ssh_prng_cmds file...

key_verify failed for server_host_key from Solaris 2.7 to non-Solaris hosts
...to
non-solaris OS:
On the client side, I do:
/local/work/lysis/bin/slogin -v -2 -p 2222 rs30
On the server side (AIX 4.3), the sshd runs as follows:
aix/sbin/sshd -p 2222 -d
Full output follows at the end of this mail.
The server is compiled with EGD support, on the client side I tested EGD and
ANDIrand (http://www.cosy.sbg.ac.at/~andi/), both with the same result:
key_verify failed for server_host_key
The same happens when I connect from Solaris to Linux servers running OpenSSH
versions 2.3 and above.
During the tests I noticed that I get no errors when I rename the "primes" file

OpenSSH and Solaris with 0.9.6x openssl
Hello,
I have tried to install openssh 2.9p2 on Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 2.8
after compiling the openssl (both 0.9.6a and 0.9.6b) and openssh
software with both gcc 2.95.3, Sun's Forte compiler, Sun's linker, etc.
I have tried the zlib from Sun freeware and version 11.8.0
REV=2000.01.08.18.12 contained in the SUNWzlib package. Both openssh and
openssl appear to make properly and all the
