Huge write amplification with thin provisioned logical volumes
Hi, I've noticed huge write amplification problem with thinly provisioned logical volumes and I wondered if anyone can explain why it happens and if and how can be fixed. The behavior is the same on Centos 6.8 and Centos 7.2. I have a NVME card (Intel DC P3600 -2 TB) on which I create a thinly provisioned logical volume: pvcrea...

DNS amplification attacks
How can I configure samba4 to be protected against DNS amplification attacks? Is there a way to set the network I want it to be recursive, like in bind9? My samba4 is receiving attacks and googling I found this: http://dnsamplificationattacks.blogspot.com.br/2014/02/domain-gerdar3ru.html -- --------------------------------------- Bruno Vane S.O. do Brasi...

Custom iptables rules to drop DNS Amplification Attacks
Hi all, I need an help to implement this kind of rules on shorewall: iptables --insert INPUT -p udp --dport 53 -m u32 --u32 "0x28&0xFFDFDFDF=0x055a5a47 && 0x2c&0xDFDFFFDF=0x53540343 && 0x30&0xDFDFFFFF=0x4f4d0000" -j DROP This kind of rules need to block a DNS Amplification Attack. I found this file https://github.com/smurfmonitor/dns-iptables-rules/blob/master/domain-blacklist.txt where we can find iptables rules to prevent this kind of attack by filter message request. I already found http://www.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/contrib/DNSDDOS/ but seems old and...

concepts against amplification using dnssec
Hello, Lutz Donnerhacke implemented DNS-Dampening. http://lutz.donnerhacke.de/eng/Blog/DNS-Dampening The implementation is available as patch for BIND9 only. He told me that there is an other method preferred by the nsd developer. It's called "Response Rate Limiting". May one describe the idea behind rate limiting and compare it with Lutz' solution? Thanks. -- Andreas

bind (named) compromised?
I'm having problems where my upstream bandwidth is being saturated. I've narrowed it down to a DNS issue of some type. If I stop the named service then my bandwidth drops to "normal" according to my untangle firewall. I'm running bind-9.3.6-20.P1.el5_8.6. I'm seeing the following in /var/log/messages: 2014-02-08T23:03:09.558315-05:00 mailserver named[3497]: network

Speech detection in preprocessor with echo
...do, it was easy to understand its units and behavior, and freezing it produced the desired results. Also I wanted to cap it, so that's done at the same place, and that definitely works. All I want to do is be able to freeze AGC adaptation and put an upper bound on the AGC (for example, 2x amplification). Both of these things seem necessary in a real-world app because: 1) AGC gain should not increase when speech is not detected. If it does, then it will inevitably rise during periods of inactivity on the part of the speaker, and then background sounds will be end up being amplified t...

dual-booting <- Re: installing Cents os server 7.0
...I installed one in my daughter's 2004 Camry. then there's the wiring, you have to make up an adapter where one end is car model specific, and the other end is stereo specific. and if the car has more than 4 speakers, life gets more complex, you'll probably need to add in additional amplification. -- john r pierce, who's stuck a lot of stereos into various cars over the years

Echo cancellation questions
...ixer option selected? Did anybody test the algorithm in such conditions? In an application I'm working on the result is not nice - both users (especcialy the one with mentioned option enabled) hear periodic (approx. once a second) loud noise ("knocks"), which seems to be an effect of amplification of background noise caused by echo. Am I using speex_echo_cancel improperly or it's not possible to eliminate echo in such conditions? 3. Does e.c. algorithm works as good in wideband as in narrowband mode? I'm using Speex 1.1.10 library. -- Greets, Mikolaj ---------------------...

Any SIP hardphone recommendations?
Hello, Can anyone recommend a hardphone that has the following qualities... Both headset and handset ports Headset port has amplification built in Supports SIP using G729 We are switching from a Nortel switch to Asterisk. If anyone is familiar with Nortel phones, the Nortel 2216 phone has the features we're looking for in a SIP phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. --Timothy Karl

Octasic echo cancellation
...echo training or something in that kind. Is there a way to monitor, using one of the zttools, the instant ERL value, to be able to set this parameter correctly? In that purpose, I would like to know where do the echo cancellation take place in the communication chain, is it after or before the amplification by the Rx/Tx gain parameters? Will this gain apply on the echo cancelled signal or on the gross signal? Anybody with experience on this product could give me some advice in the aim of removing all trace of echo? Thanks by advance Sebastien
