simple lme question
...a significant block effect and as it will be a random effect, I need to use lme in R. At each watering treatment, I had 5 different combinations of plants. I have shown how I have labelled these in brackets for species A: A in isolation (Aiso) A+A monoculture (Amono) A+B interspecific competition (Amix) .. and the same combinations for species B. I have final biomass data for each of the plants. My first step is to check species A for interspecific competition, for which I will use: Response variable: Amix (continuous - biomass measurement) Random effect: Block (factor - replicates labell...

...ith a program called catdsp). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp. Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card? I have tried, as suggested in previous mails, raising the sound level of line in and mic with amixer, alsamixer, aumix, kmix, gmix, etc. I still can`t get to stream audio from line-in but I got to stream noise to my Icecast Server! Any ideas?? Raul

--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe f...

plug in phones, speaker does not mute.
Hi all! Using C6 on an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard with AMD six core FX6300. That board uses Realtek ALC892 audio chipset. For the first time since I got that motherboard I tried plugging in headphones to the front panel speaker output. I was somewhat displeased to note that the speakers don't mute when that happens. I recall seeing info on that in Fedora, but not Centos, and

Sound card problem
...stick a spare sound card in the remaining PCI slot but the sound card used to work with CentOS 5.0. It seems kind of silly that it doesn't work now. I've Googled for some different parts of the dmesg output but haven't found anything helpful. Same with error messages from aplay, amixer, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Yes, I did : in fact, aumix from the command line behaves exactly like the KMix GUI : when I change the PCM or Mic level with aumix, KMix shows the new settings. But even with aumix set to the good values (PCM to 100%), ices get no sound.

...s a device that you can record from. Some cards will allow you to record from more than one channel at a time, so be aware of this. You need to see if you can set your PCM device to let you record from it. Unfortunatly, aumix doesn't let you see the capabilities of channels, unlike alsa's amixer, so you're going to have to experiment with it. It's possible it doesn't, and even if it does, the OSS drivers mightn't provide that fascility - I really don't know. So, assuming it does, you could try: aumix -w r Note that I don't use aumix, now that I use alsa, so I&...

Hello, I've successfully installed Icecast 2.0.0 and Ices 2.0.0 on a Compaq EvoN600C running Redhat 9. Everything runs quite well (no error loggued by Icecast or Ices), the Ices stream is seen as a source by Icecast and friends are able to listen to my radio (I see them as listeners in Icecast admin)... the problem is that they ear only silence ! Looks like the streaming is OK but Ices could

Encode on fly from device?
Hello, I'm looking for ideas here. I'm sure it's easy, but cant quite get what I need. I am looking for a way to encode everything from the soundcard into a .ogg, on the fly. Basically I want to be able to record and convert directly to a compressed file. Since this will be running constantly, I would also like to be able to listen to the file during this time. I know oggenc can use
