Re: [OT]SPAM
...-- I've been subscribed to the Samba list for years and I don't
get unmanagable numbers of viruses.
I've also seen bursts of virus traffic for no apparent reason. It could be
a coincidence. Correlation != causation.
There's also always the question of what your ISP is doing. My
ameritech.net account gets vast quantities of spam, and started getting it
before I even used it! I can only assume Ameritech is selling their email
list.

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while
troubleshooting my printer setup problems.
1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3
debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors.
Upping it to level-10, I saw something that
pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were
set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I
set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744,
the chmod errors went away.

Finally, any alternatives for smaller companies? I tried to get a simple

Authenticating against ActiveDirectory - can't read userPassword/unicodePwd?
Hello list,
So, the application I am working on right now needs to have LDAP
authentication build in, meaning that if the user enabled it, we will query
about his basic data (email, pwd) on a user-setup LDAP directory. It used to
work fine when I was testing with OpenLDAP. The code, essentially, is this:
connection.bind(self.bind_dn,self.password)

Trust me, it could be worse. You could have Ameritech, for example. Or
Quest. In fact, I'd say Verizon is probably the best of the major
RBOCs/ILECs (I'm in former GTE country, not NYNEX/Bell Atlantic, which
might be different). But even then, they do leave something to be
desired.

samba 4 for home network sharing
I can't get samba 3 to work with glibc 2.4. Samba 4 seems to work though.
I just want to set up a simple share to share my Linux home directory to a
Windows PC and a Mac OS X. Can this be done with Samba 4? Does anyone
have a sample config file that works?

User Access
Dear All
I've been thinking about this one for some time.
Is it possible to allow a number of Windows clients - on Win 98 - to
have access to the same directory on a Samba server ? The purpose of
this would be for two or more people to have access to the same
document at the same time so that they could edit it.
Doesn't sound all that sensible to me but a few people have asked me

OT: pager pay
Hey folks,
I'm trying to compare my small company's policy against other
companies out there. We pay 10% of your per-hour salary equivalent
per every hour you carry it, whether it goes off or not. So for
example someone making $55K/year works out to about $27 / hour (I
think), so they'd get $2.70 for every hour they carry the pager
outside of regular work hours. We are a company

North American voice BRI - Informal survey
Hi, folks:
I remain intrigued by the gap in BRI implementation between North
America and Europe, and I wanted to get feedback from the list members
on the matter. I'm seriously considering making the leap in our office.
In Europe, the idea that an office that does not have enough lines to
justify PRI would use analog lines is perceived as technologically
backwards, and yet that's what

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all,
It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a
small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my
question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will
operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do
DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything
else I need. The ILEC has at the other

What are the various models of DID providers
Hi,
Inspired by a recent rant about one particular provider, I am getting
very curious about something I've never mastered. I'd like someone to
explain this here or at least post a link or two that can educate me
and probably countless others who have no knowledge in this area. I'm
sure there are several of you reading this that know all about the
subject.
What are the various
