Amateur Radio/FCC and the "none" encryption option
Is there an easy way to get the "none" option back into OpenSSH? In order to do TCP/IP over amateur radio in the U.S. (and most other countries) we must not use encryption to obscure the meaning of our info, but we are allowed to use authentication to set up the links. This means we need normal authentication but we need the "none" option back in OpenSSH in order to use it

[Fwd: Re: Which product to use?]
Dave, I have been interested in some of the same questions that you have been asking. A while back I asked a person at VLSI ( http://www.vlsi.fi/ ) in Finland if they had a product that might work. The exchange of email is included below. In summary, the answer was probably no, but maybe in the future. The VS1005 chip he mentions does not seem to have appeared yet. I currently have a pair

GSM / Radio
Hi there, I was looking for a GSM gateway, but I didn't find any prices... Anybody knows how much one of these costs? And, is it possible to use an amateur radio with asterisk? Thanks, Marconi.

Re: FRS and GMRS via *
...app_rpt application. There has been a lot of speculation on this list on the legalities of doing this. For amateur use under Part 97, interconnection with the PSTN is fair game *if* a licensed amateur is always in control of the transmitter and the transmissions are strictly non-business. Non-amateurs can talk over the system but only when the transmitters are being controlled by licensed amateurs. The line in the sand is that you can order pizza over the autopatch, but you can't order cheese for your pizzeria. GMRS, FRS and MURS radios may not be interconnected with the PSTN (47 CFR 95...

Sampling with conditions
Hey everyone, I am at best, an amateur user of R, but I am stuck on how to set-up the following situation. I am trying to select a random sample of numbers from 0 to 10 and insert them into the first column of a matrix (which will used later in a loop). However, I need to have those numbers add up to 10. How can I set those conditions? So far I have: n<-matrix(0,nr=5,ncol=10) for(i in

I'm not sure what the confusion or concern is. The intention is to use non-plaintext (but technically not encrypted) authentication without TLS over ham frequencies. Hashed challenge/response

darkice connection error
Wanted to give a quick update. The problem still exists but I may have isolated the problem a bit. I tried to stream to the icecast server using both liveice and holyshout. Neither could connect. I also had a friend (thx vanguardist) attempt to stream remotely to my server. He received a connection error as well. It would appear to me (in my AMATEUR opinion) that the icecast server is not

converting .doc to html
Anyone got a preferred program or package for this? I'd like a *good* one, and Word or OO.o's save as html in no way qualifies as other than amateur crap. So far, with a little googling, I've found the wv package. wvHtml works, but I don't like the output - it insists on <div>, and on &rhquo instead of plain, simple ". mark "what, ask for an opinion in

Help with R-Calling forth csv.
Hi, I'm working on R trying to find a distribution that fits data from a csv file. The csv contains data on pressure exerted by a certain vehicle in terms of pressure [kPa] and I have around 3000 data points. I want to call forth this csv and by using (fitdistr) or if you could recommend a function to use, get a plot of my csv and the distributions I can compare it to (Weibull, chi, beta,

Final comment from a newbie
As a person new to R, I joined the list. I am a long-term member of the Stata list, which has a tradition of being very helpful to newbies. Imagine my surprise when my first day's mail included a rough rebuke to someone for asking a simple question (including mentioning that the poster had been reprimanded about this sort of thing before). In the week I've been on it, there have been

KStars on CentOS 4.4?
Is there an RPM for this? I think it's in the kdeedu package on the FC6 DVD. My wife is an amateur astronomer and she uses this excellent program. If upstream isn't including it, can I get it and not break my CentOS 4.4 system? (Also, I'd like to migrate her and my daughter to CentOS). TIA, Lanny

Attributes or list programming "efficiency"
R-Fellow Travellers: Asked from the perspective of a software development amateur ... Suppose one wishes to create data structures that have both data and metadata -- e.g. a data.frame and details about where, when, and by whom the data were gathered (specifics not important here). 1. Is there any inherent processing advantage in R in representing this as a list that contains both the data and

Audio/video recording software
Hi everyone! :-) I am supposed to get (for the first time) into the world of making youtube clips. I have a webcam, a microphone and a big hard drive configured and ready. The question is: what would you suggest as an easy-to-use yum-installable app that could handle a couple of minutes/hours of recording? People who are about to use it are complete noobs, and I would like to give them a

Trying to get N1MM Logger working under Wine
I am trying to use an amateur radio logging program under Wine, but other than installation, I've been unable to get the program running. Most likely I just need some assistance figuring out which DLLs are still missing. On advice I installed DCOM98 and VCRUN6 and set mfc42, ole32 and rpcrt4 to (builtin, native). So far all I get are a few dialog boxes, the first titled "EntryWindow
