I would like to build it myself and gain some knowledge on the way.

Samba server choices
I have been running a customized version Amahi for a couple years for my
Samba server. It is time for an upgrade, and I will be moving away from
Amahi, as they have abandoned Fedora for Ubuntu.
Back when I selected Amahi to replace my 15 year old NT server, I looked
around and only considered SME Server as an alternative, but they were

Like 10 years ago. When I built my own firewalls. Since then dhcpd was
a commercial firewall process.
Well a little with Amahi, but that was also years ago when I was
contributing to that work.
Did dhpc6 and RADVD. Still have the config files, but they are old.

smtp+pop3+imap+tls+webmail+anti spam+anti virus
hi!
does anyone has a good howto, docs how to set up an smtp, pop3, imap server, with webmail, and has anti virus solution, and even spam filtering? :D [plus secure connection for the clients :D ]
wich softwares are the best for this? [e.g.: "vsftpd is the most secure ftp server"..]
users would be from /etc/passwd [so not virtual users]
thank you!
p.s.: I've already googled :(

Simple Samba server for "at home" - what do I need and what not?
Hello,
after two decades without a dedicated file server at home, it is about
time to have Samba.
While I am mainly a Linux guy there is a couple of systems that don't
find rsync and sshfd adequate. We do have a handfull of standalone
Windows 10 machines, a bunch of smartphones and a zoo of home
entertainment appliances such as a TV, Sat receivers, IP radios/audio
players. In addition to

Some questions
...th the rpm distributions or sernet? Will sernet build on
armv7 and armv5?
My domain is htt-consult.com, and it is really no problem to create a
subdomain of home.htt-consult.com. But I would really like to run my
domain as home.htt as I do with ClearOS right now and I did some time
back with Amahi. Other than setting up the TLD of .htt (which I have
done), is there anything of note?
What is the opinion on BIND/DHCPD vs DNSMASQ? I have lots of experience
with BIND and can get around DHCPD. For DNSMASQ, I would have to copy
something else (like the conf from my current server).

You could take a look at Amahi:
https://www.amahi.org/
I know it isn't based on debian, but it sounds just like what you are
looking for.

Workgroup compared to Domain
Are there any good articles comparing features/functions of a Workgroup
compared to a Domain?
I am trying to put something together for the Amahi project and so far
my searches have been rather slim pickins.

Application will not run for domain user
I have set up a Samba PDC using the Amahi.org distro, so there might be
some things they still have a bit off...
Anyway, I have a somewhat old program, Quicken 2000.
On my old Win2K workstation on an old NT server, it ran just fine for
domain users. The software is installed on the workstation, and the
data is on the server.
But on...

Lost my Samba PDC, trying to rebuild
My PDC is based on the Amahi server in PDC mode, running on Fedora 12.
I got it working previously through a bit of trial and error, and then
bug fixes to Amahi. Friday I lost my drive and did not have backups of
my smb.conf, or my profile directories for my roaming profiles, or most
of my data. I had a rsync kind or wri...

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba
3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with
ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is
crunch time to update/upgrade.
I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10
(Redhat 6.4 based). So far...

doing some googling, this seems to be about the most current/relevant
thing I have found wrt to running freeipa server on CentOS
http://howtoforge.com/how-to-build-rhel-ipa-rpms-for-centos-5
which I'm not totally adverse to doing but I have to ask, is there
something packaged? (I've looked in 'testing' and in 'extras' and in

It is recommended that your TLD is not resolvable from the internet,
after that it is up to you, with just one caveat, don't use a .local domain.

Adding LDAP Backend to Samba
Hi,
im trying to use our LDAP server as backend for Samba (PDC).
I used smbldap-tools to transfer samba users to our LDAP server.
Now i have ou=computers, ou=idmap, ou=smb-usr and ou=groups.
I added the following to my smb.conf
ldap passwd sync = yes
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost
ldap suffix = dc=workgroup,dc=local
ldap admin dn = cn=admin,dc=workgroup,dc=local
ldap
