plots to metafile and x/y ratio
...doing something wrong. I'm ploting a little map using plot(val, type="l", asp=1) where val is the object with the latitude/longitude data. In the screen the figure is perfect, and I can copy to the clipboard and paste it to other places. I can also saved using png() or jpeg(), althoug the quality is much lower. However when I try to save it as metafile (from the plot window or by using win.matafile), the file I obtain do not keep the x/y ratio. I'm interested in this metafile because the quality in much higher then the png, jpeg. Any suggestion? I'm working with R.1...

...y command (cp) to copy the files over to ext3 disk On the second occasion we used ftp command in bin mode to ftp the files over to the destination node to ext3 disk. On both occassions while creating the new control file on Target node, we got error stating the System file needs more recovery. ( Althoug we are 100% sure that on both occassions databases were shutdown normally for the backup) On both above mentioned ocassions we were able to correct the problem using cp --o_direct command to copy the files over. When we used cp --o_direct , we were able to create the Target Database successfully....

Bayesian inference: Poisson distribution with normal (!) prior
...lo, for a frequency modelling problem I want to combine expert knowledge with incoming real-life data (which is not available up to now). The frequency has to be modelled with a poisson distribution. The parameter lambda has to be normal distributed (for certain reasons we did not NOT choose gamma althoug it would make everything easier). I've started with the subsequent two functions to obtain random numbers for Lambda after the first observed period. My question is now, how to get the randoms for the n following periods? Thanks a lot for your hints! Maybe there is an easier way to do the nec...

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

timeout error in rsync-2.5.5
...ours to avoid dropping the connection. Howerver, after a little over 1 hour (usually 66 minutes or so), the server process simply gives up. I have verified the problem under rsync versions 2.3.2, and 2.4.6 and up (including 2.5.5), testing a few different combinations of client/server versions (althoug the client is always a linux box and the server always a solaris box). It looks to me as if something kicks the server out of the select() call at line 202 of io.c (read_timeout) despite the timeout being correctly set to 18000 seconds. Can anybody think of what the problem may be? See all the...

Bootloader chaining
...h depending what I'm trying to do by chain booting the two. I'm able to chain boot in either direction, either pxelinux then bpbatch or bpbatch then pxelinux, but once I've done this, and boot either Linux or DOS, I find the adapter I used to network boot is not detected by the driver--althoug a second NIC of the same type is. My theory on this is that the first bootloader isn't releasing control of the adapter somehow--for instance, if I boot bpbatch then pxelinux and pxelinux boots Linux, then pxelinux will release control of the adapter (hide the boot PROM is how the bpbatch manu...

isdn4linux delay
I have a weird problem and I cannot put my finger on it. I hope somebody can help me out. Incoming and outgoing calls via the internet go perfectly well. Calls that originate from a SIP or AIX client on the local LAN (100 Mbx) and terminate via a Winbond BRI often (not all of the times, but most of the times) are having a (about) 5 second delay starting from when I say something until the

Resource Bundle Roundup
I''ve recently made a first release of what I''m calling "bundled_resource" which is a plugin that makes our lives *much* easier when we need to use javascripts, stylesheets and images in conjunction with one another to deliver a special effect or tool on the client (browser) side. If you missed the release, read about it on my blog at

[PATCH/Gallium] nv50: update nv50_clear to new interface
...c4555cae30691a2cd57 changed the way pipe->clear works so I figured I'd try to make an updated version, so below is the diff - my concerns/uncertainties should be contained in the comments. Or maybe you want to do it the way NV40 does it, just calling surface_fill through a utility function (althoug this does currently seem to only clear one color buffer) . I'll have a look at my REnouveau dumps to see if there are push buffer commands to clear buffers of the other formats, though I'll most probably fail. And I expect you probably have another/better implementation, but here's my t...

Backup domU xen

[nls] singular gradient
Hi, I am new to R. I don't have strong background of statistics. I am a student of Geotechnical Engineering. I tried to run a nonlinear regression for a three-variable function, that is N = f(CSR, ev) # N is a function of CSR and ev, and N = CSR/(A +B*CSR), wherer (A,B) are function of ev. N, CSR and ev are observed in the experiments. Following is my R script. rm(list=ls())
