I was trying to compile alsa 1.0.14rc3 on centos 4.92 and there are errors. I have informed alsa. They dont seem to happy redhat has once again messed up alsa with their custom kernel. Just FYI. I tried to install alsa 1.0.19 on centos 5.3 64 - did not work - compile errors. I need to re-install alsa-lib and alsa-util . I dont want to do rpm -e first on those packages as dependcy is crazy. I know they were installed (rpm -qa | grep alsa tells me so) I just want to re-install ? How do I do that? Thanks, Jerry

Hi, I've been try to get sound in wine (20040121) working on my machine for while now. As you've probably guessed I've got a SiS 7012 (which uses the intel i8x0 modules) and alsa (either natively or OSS emulation.) google came up with a few hits about this not working in the past, namely: http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/12/0281.html But I'm not sure if this is still relevant. So I used to use the winepulse patch for wine. (Yes I like pulse). But since 1.3.25+ uses mmdevapi for audio, that patch no longer works. That author points to a wine multimedia git, however, after installing that I have no more sound in any wine application, and the winecfg test audio says audio failed. The new board has on-board sound as did my old mainboard, but the new board uses an Intel8x0 sound chip, the old board had a Yamaha YMFPCI chipset. Because of the difference in sound systems I needed to rebuild the ALSA drivers and decided to get the latest from ALSA. This also required a kernel upgrade, from 2.4.20 to 2.6.2.
