I used the tarball!?
I downloaded the sources into a fresh new directory and did compile it
from there.
Do I need to delete the old compiling directory containing samba4 alpha12
sources!?

Hi!
I am currently using Samba4 Alpha13 but I have not been
able to change a users password. I curently can add a
user using ldbadd and a ldif file but I would like to

It would be nice if it could be done from the
adminstrator account so that you do not need to know

SAMBA4 and Solaris 10 X86
hello,
I have been trying to build/get SAMBA4 alpha13/alpha11
to build on Solaris 10 Update 8 X86. I have tried to use the ./autogen-waf and the other ./autogen
and following the procedure ./configure(.developer) seems to conclude correctly,
however the actual make and make install seems to fail.
I need to make sure first, is Samba4 supported on...

Help with Samba4 running logon script
Hi!
I am currently testing a Samba4 Alpha13 server with Windows Vista SPK2
and I am not able
to run logon scripts. I am able to use both profiles and map Home
folders without any
problems. I do not see any DOS window opening with the script running
and I have tested
running this as both a user and administrator by hand by just clicking

Nis homedirs
Greetings,
I'm using 2.0.0-alpha13 on Solaris (compiling with gcc 2.8.1 on Solaris
2.5, running on 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.6). I see this in the smb.conf.5
man page:
nis homedir (G)
Get the home share server from a NIS (or YP) map. For unix
systems that use an automounter, the user's home directory
will often be...

One seamless file space?
Greetings!
I'm experimenting with the 2.0.0.alpha13 snapshot and attempting
to get my four Solaris fileservers to present a single uniform
(automounter-like) namespace to our NT clients. Re-wording,
I'd like PC clients to see a single "server" that appears to
share all of the Unix home directories on four fileservers. The
automounter...

can use a range of modular backends. One of the backends supports
standards compliant LDAP servers (including OpenLDAP), and we are
working on modules to map between AD-like behaviours and this backend.
We are aiming for Samba 4 to be powerful frontend to large

We have continued our commitment to provide a full DRS implementation
for our AD implementation and therefore achieved also this time big
steps forward.
Our progress on DRS is being tracked in the Samba wiki:

Samba4 LDAP LDB Indexes
I have a system running Samba 4 Alpha 11, and I seem to have a corrupted LDB
file in my directory. (Probably the result of taking a backup without using
tdbbackup). Right now, running tdbbackup on the file produces an error
message similar to the following:
Failed to insert into DC=WWW,DC=EXAMPLE,DC=COM.ldb.bak.tmp
failed to copy DC=WWW,DC=EXAMPLE,DC=COM.ldb
If I run

nis homedir troubles
Sorry if this is an old problem. I have just installed 1.9.18p10 - the
latest version. I noticed the nis homedir option in the config file, but
have not had much luck in implementing it.
I had hoped it would mean my [homes] shares would map to the correct server
- the one which physically carries a users home directory - regardless of
the machine to which the connection attempt was made. My

WG: HOWTO samba4 centos5.5 named dnsupdate drbd simple failover
centOs5.5/samba4/named here is a short guide setting it up to work.
I added TSIG for bind-master amd bind-slave. Update to samba4 alpha13 added (installing git on CentOs 5.5).
If you do this howto right now you will start with samba4 alpha13. You do not need the update section. But you need
git for your installation because the rsync-thing is broken!!!!!!
First of all do not install the bind package coming with centos 5.5!!
Install...
