Upgrade broke file locking
Prior to upgrading from RH7.0 to RH7.3 our Samba filserver worked perfectly. Now we are having locking problems. Initially Iused the same samba binaries built on RH70, I tried rebuilding Samba and reinstalling but it had no effect. If user bon opens an M$-Office file they frequently get a 'file is already in use by bob'. Sure enough smbstatus -L shows the file locked by bob, but bob

How dangerous is --inplace
Hello list! How dangerous is acctually the --inplace option if you want to run rsync to update files that are only read and not written to? What is the worst that can happen? The file is not readable, the reader gets half the file of an old version and the rest is from the new version? There is not a simple way to make it update the file in the standard way and then change the ownership

ks.test one-sample - where can I get a list of the strings specifying the distribution?
Dear all, One can use ks.test(x,y) for a one-sample kolmogorov-smirnov test: x being the data sample y being a string specifying a distribution I notice the help on ks.test does not tell you how to get such a list. Is this a hole in my R knowledge? Where can I get a list of the strings specifying the possible distributions? and more specifically What would be the string and following

bigmemory for dataframes?
Hi Folks, I've been bumping my head against the 4GB limit for 32-bit R. I can't go to 64-bit R due to package compatibility issues (ROBDC - possible but painful, xlsReadWrite - not possible, and others). I have a number of big dataframes whose columns all sorts of data types - factor, character, integer, etc. I run and save models that keep copies of the modeled data inside the model

Meaning of loads/stores marked both atomic and volatile

reproduction archives
Hello Folks, As some of my old code broke when an updated package changed its interface, I started thinking about reproduction of analyses. It's not good enough to save our code - we have to save the package versions those analyses used as well as the R-core. I saw a couple references to "reproduction archives" around, but nothing specific. Is there any good way to package up

extract indep vars from formula
Hello, I'm trying to extract the independent variables from a formula. The closest I've been able to come, aside from rolling my own, is the following: > a = y ~ b * x > attr(terms(formula(a)),"variables") The reason I'm doing this is that I'm building a grid of points that I use to construct a 3-d model prediction surface in rgl. If there are more than two

I''m looking for someone that probably fits most of our profiles: PHP SQL AJAX JS XML XHTML DHTML Please only Web 2.0 oriented people. I might not be able to implement any RoR here soon but the RoR mindset alone is a big plus from my point of view. Thank you. Luis...

summaryBy: transformed variable on RHS of formula?
Hi Folks, I'm trying to cut my data inside the summaryBy function. Perhaps formulas don't work that way? I'd like to avoid adding another column if possible, but if I have to, I have to. Any ideas? Thanks, Allie require(doBy) df = dataframe(a <- rnorm(100), b <-rnorm(100)) summaryBy(a ~ cut(b,c(-100,-1,1,100)), data=df) # preferred solution, but it throws an
