gsub/strsplit with multiple patterns/splits
Hi,
I have a vector like this:
DF <- c("Aetna, Inc.", "Alexander's Inc.", "Allegheny Energy, Inc")
For each element in the vector I would like to remove the "incorporated"
info, so that my vector looks like this:
DF <- c("Aetna", "Alexander's", "Allegheny Energy")
That means that I have to strip:
strip <- c(", Inc.&quo...

I am running R2.2.1 on Windows XP. Where does one begin to troubleshoot
this.

Listing Variables
...ly will not work and it is
necessary to supply each variable name to a function (see thread at
Repeating tdt function on thousands of variables)
This is such a core capability. I would like to see it in the R-Wiki but
could not find it there.

Npmc for doing post-hoc after Kruskal
...rything seemed to work.
Is that really the way one has to do it? As a general pointer to my overall
R capabilities- does the documentation say that one has to name them class
and var? Has my e-mail transgressed R etiquette?

Writing responses to the R-Help list
A while back Gabor Grothendieck suggested that I try
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.r.general. This was after I asked how
to easily reply to posts on the listserve. Ideally I would like the
functionality that I find in Microsoft Outlook Express newsreader for usenet
groups or what I find in Google Groups.
I started using gmane about 3 weeks ago. I find it fantastic for searching

How to a handle an error in a loop
...r (disappointing because I only half understand the R code in
it) or is there an easy way to instruct R to simply move onto the next one.
I saw something about try() but it got me nowhere. I tried
Resultdt<-lapply(PGWide[,385:389],try(tdt))

Repeating tdt function on thousands of variables
...ry locus ID is in one column and in
another column I have its chromosome number and exact position on the
chromosome I could always create a vector out of the locusIDs but still I
would need to know how to pass it on to the tdt function in R.

Reshaping genetic data from long to wide
...ton package can handle the data in the long form?
If not do any of the packages reshape the data in a way that is pedigree and
genotype aware. The general R reshape function is not predesigned to be
friendly to genetic data.

Unequal sample sizes when calculating power
Power calculations two sample test for proportions is very useful. Is there
a way however, to get away from the two samples being of the same size. What
would happen if one had n=15 in the one sample and n=45 in the other sample.
