Matrix subscripting to wrap around from end to start of row
Perhaps it is just that I don't even know the correct term to search for, but I can find nothing that explains how to wrap around from the end to a start of a row in a matrix. For example, you have a matrix of 2 years of data, where rows are years, and columns are months. month.data = matrix(c(3,4,6,8,12,90,5,14,22, 8), nrow = 2, ncol=5) I would like to take the average of months 5:1 for

[jobs] postdoc in remote sensing with USDA-ARS
The USDA-Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Watershed Research Unit in Tifton, GA, is seeking a postdoctoral research associate for a full-time, 2 year appointment. The research associate will develop, calibrate, and validate a semi-empirical model for estimating cotton biomass from fields within the southeastern United States. Model development will involve the use of optical and radar

Is rl broken?
Greetings, I cvsup'd and rebuilt a FreeBSD 4.8 system last Friday after receiving the realpath security advisory. The machine is remote and the NIC uses the rl driver. After booting the machine I had no network connectivity. The person at the remote site says the boot was normal and he could see that the NIC was properly configured but he could not ping it and I could not login. We booted

relaying IceCast from ShoutCast
...e MP3 servers, I need to define 22 listen-socket ports for Icecast aliases to relay to shoutcast: this is when I hit this problem. However for now, I'm going to move Icecast back to the "radio" servers and then relay Icecast from there to Icecast on the MP3 servers, defining the port alisaes on each of the "radio" servers will keep the number under 10. Estimating variance components of groups of covariates within regression model
I am interested in estimating the variance components from different groups of variables in a linear regression. For example, I want to model dependent variable ?Y? based on six covariates as follows: (these are land use types measured at three scales for each Y, "Local", "Riparian", and "Catchment" - these are not nested as there is a unique area for each Y -

Randomized-complete blocks design and R
Hi, I am new in R.I am trying to analysis of variance for Randomized-complete blocks design. I have 4 treatments and 3 replication, Without intraction.then .I is going to use LSD test or Duncan test for comparison between average values of treatments. I want to know, is there any significant change between treatment and between weeks? Because I did experiment for 8 weeks. I am not

Missing In PATH
I'm a newb to linux so please be patient. Running CentOS 4. Using Bash. I'm not sure what happened, but now for some reason /sbin, /usr/sbin, and /usr/local/sbin are all missing from the path. I am su'd as root. I've tried several different methods to put this back including: PATH="/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/hom

relaying IceCast from ShoutCast
This is killing me... I've tried everything I can think of, but Icecast still crashes if I define more than 10 listen-socket ports. Is there a limit that's not documented or is this a bug? I'm using the latest Windows build that OddSock compiled. Thanks for any help/ideas Fred -----Original Message----- From: Fred Black [mailto:fred@batanga.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2005

nomianl response model
Is there a way to estimate a nominal response model? To be more specific let's say I want to calibrate: \pi_{v}(\theta_j)=\frac{e^{\xi_{v}+\lambda_{v}\theta_j}}{\sum_{h=1}^m e^{\xi_{h}+\lambda_{h}\theta_j}} Where $\theta_j$ is a the dependent variable and I need to estimate $\xi_{h}$ and $\lambda_{h}$ for $h \in {1...,m}$. self organizing map advice for categorical data
Hello, Could anybody offer any advice about implementing a Kohonen self organizing map for categorical data? Specifically I am wondering if there are any pre-existent packages that can deal with categorical data and/or how one would compare the input vector of categoricals with the self organizing map nodes. Thanks in advance. George Chen ----- Original Message ----- From: r-help-request at

randomized block design analysis PROBLEM
Dear All user, Hello, I'm a student and I have some trouble with the experimental (columns-experiments) design of my project. I use a randomized block design with 4 treatments including a control. For each treatment, I use 3 replicates and 3 blocks. The treatments are: -T1 = COD (300 mg/Lit) COD=chemical oxygen demand -T2 = COD (200 mg/Lit) -T3 = COD (100 mg/Lit) -T4 = COD (0 mg/Lit) as
