Hi all,
While working on alias support for the LLVM-ML project, I ran into a
feature implemented back in 2010: default-null weak externals in COFF, a
GNU extension.
https://reviews.llvm.org/rG17990d56907b
I'd like to disable this feature when targeting MSVC compatibility. Does
anyone have more context on this, and why it'd be a terrible idea?
For context: This seems to be designed to let

Access shares from DNS alias

which pointed out 2 necessary configs in order for aliases to work:
1. Add the DisableStrictNameChecking value in the server-side registry

2. Set the 2 required SPNs for every alias needed (windows tool syntax).
setspn -a host/aliasname targetserver_netbios_name
setspn -a host/aliasname.domain.ext targetserver_netbios_name

Netbios alias -max names or chars
Hello all
This is my first post to Samba lists so I hope I have picked the correct
list. Please let me know if I haven't.
My question is what is the maximum amount of names or characters that can be
put on the "netbios aliases" line in the smb.conf. We have situation where
we potentially need to put up to 200 names on the line (big machines, one
name per application).
Cheers

if you follow this basic rules for your (internal) revolving.
hostname -f is the real hostname.

[bug?] server string and netbios aliases
...; statement in
each of the smb.conf.%L files so each netbios name would have an appropriate
comment/remark listed when viewed.
It seems though that the server string parameter is only honoured if it
appears in smb.conf's [global] or in smb.conf.servername's [global] and not in
any smb.conf.aliasname's [global]. That server string (if found) or else the
default one is then used as the comment for each of the netbios aliases. Since
there is only really one server it does make sense that there would only be one
server string, but given the ability to do aliases it seems resonable to
expect...

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
Thanks for the suggestions!
> The latter is easiest to deal with, replace it with a CNAME in the AD dns.
I did the CNAME, but when I remove the netbios alias I can see the shares list when accessing \\aliasname, but then I'm not allowed into any of them. I tried rebooting the client but same result, and I also don't see anything in the logs :(

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
...the wiki.
Another test I made was about the netbios alias: when the share is not working it won't help accessing it with \\fileserver, instead of using \\alias, it won't work anyway.

Small update on the alias "thing".
I did a new alias, partly to make a test. So I added the cname, added spn entries host/fqdn and hos...

Ok, this part above, yes, your right, its reading in memory, but to my believe,
From: kerberos method = secrets and keytab, and as far i know "secrets" = MEMORY

Thats the key here, so conclusion resolving problems/incorrectly setup.
So there for im saying. ( typed this before i got the script output ).
OLDSAMBA is still in /etc/hosts but before the newHostname
