checksum on what was downloaded
Hi, Assume you are in hostile environment, as in you can't trust the DHCP serversss nor the TFTP/HTTP server. So you would want a checksum on kernel and initrd. Which checksum algoritme is available in pxelinux.0? Which checksum algoritme could be integrate into pxelinux.0? In other words: Please advice what could be done to verify what pxelinux.0 did download. Cheers Geert Stappers -- leven en laten leven

Error handling
Hi I wrote a function implementing an algoritm for simulation of spatial sampling plans (using geoR). I'm using a range of parameters to perform several simulation and sometimes this parameters create function errors wich cause the algoritm to stop. How can I avoid this ? Below there's a small example that I made to study the problem...

uid x sid on LDAP
...already done my homework and found whenever the same user had different uids or group assignments, and planed the steps required to get everything in sync (like changing file owners). My question regards sambaAccount x posixAccount in LDAP. Samba docs state that Unix uids/gids and Windows SIDs are algoritmically mapped implying that given a Windows user SID the Unix uid needs to have a certain value, and vice-versa. But I wish to change as few as possible existing uid/gids. I see sambaAccount has a sid field, and posixAccount has a uid field. So, if I do store values for both, using the ones from pr...

Any ideas for the most efficient algoritm to reshuffle tiles based on this description.
This was exactracted from a 8192x4 texture, with 32x4 tiles. 4 patterns appears, each 8x128 bytes long. these patterns are repeated, and one is always left out. So 123, 234, 134, 124. The repetetive cycle is therefore 4x3x8x128 = 12288 bytes long. I've included the color code ods file, which contains the normal -> actual position. I have no idea how this goes for larger tiles (is the

filelist calculation algoritm
HI all, efficiency question for VERY low bandwith networks Suppose I know the list of files that are changed What is the most efficient way to make rsync sync this list. Currently I use --include-from --exclude to generate a 'filelist' but I suspect that client and/or server exchange the list of files in the module to be synced. this traffic can be avoided since the include-from

set off error messages
Hello there! I'm creacting a loop for(i in 1:n){...}within which I build a nls model at each iteration. for some of the values of i, the algoritm in the nls function doesn't converge or cannot find a solution and consequently an error message is produced, and so my loop is interupted. The errors don't really matter to me as all the other values might still be useful and therefore I want to ignore the errors, so that that the return o...

format & seeking
Hello , you've been written that file format is frozen. does this mean that i'll be able to play files, commpressed today, say, 1-2 years after? thereby the next question is coming. what kind of strategy do you plan to enable fast seeking? to write new seeking algoritm, or to add some data to .flac file. i ask of it because i want to write files on cd-r and so i'd like to know can i do this now or should wait until this problem will be solved. -- Best regards, Andrey

A checksum question
...the same files. From my testing this causes a vast overhead that is clearly not represented by RCP (fairly obvious!). Removing checksumming from a secure whole-file LAN transfer brings RSYNC in line with the general performance of RCP. Can someone explain to me the rationale behind the checksum algoritm and use within the RSYNC protocol? I'm asking this question as I am finding it rather difficult to convince some of our users that RSYNC is a viable replacement for RCP functionality, which is necessary to resolve some of the limitations we encounter with the standard RCP. Many thanks in...

Bandwith especification.
...--> DSL ---(300kbps)---> INTERNET Which is the recomended value I must set in my QoS setup for the maximum outbound bandwith of my ethernet interface ? The max of 300kbps or something less like 290kbps ? Especify less than the maximum available bandwith is advisable to ensure that the QoS algoritms goes fine, isn''t it ? Newton-Raphson
Dear all, I want to solve a score function by using Newton-Raphson algorithm. Is there such a fucntion in R? I know there's one called optim, but it seems only doing minimizing or maximizing. Thanks, Jimmy

Bootstrap and Jackknife Bias using Survey Package
...alysis is Maputo City, the Capital of Mozambique. I just compute the sampling errors using Survey Package, but i have some droubles: 1. How to compute Bootstrap and Jackknife Bias of estimates, like mean? 2. How to see each replicate estimate of the parameter? 3. Is it possible to use the Sitter algoritm in Bootstrap for stratified and multi-stage sampling in Survey Package? Or is possible to use the pseudo-population (obtained by replication the sample) in estimation using Bootstrap? Thanks before hand to anyone how can help me!

In linux i must use tc command for setting it, but it''s telling me about setting algoritm will start to set in root qdisc and root qdisc is outboud side so i fear about i can''t setting 2 algorithm simultaneously so please advise me , if you think i''m misunderstand and Is it can do for real??? what should i do??? [LLVMdev] PATCH: Use size reduction -- wave2
...om the use-diet branch, viz. the capacity of the BitcodeReaderValueList is computed very naively with the new algorithm at each push_back. I left this in to see whether the algorithm scales. Kimwitu++ bitcode-reading puts more than 250.000 Use objects into a contiguous array. To get its capacity my algoritm has to visit more than 18 pointers each time. Tonight I will store the capacity in a member variable, and run comprehensive tests. I expect further speedups, possibly even parity. Barring any surprises I plan to merge the use-diet branch to trunk this weekend. Owen promised to help me doing more...
