Integrated RTL8168/8111 NIC not assigned interface
I'm running 7.0-RELEASE-i386 on Jetway's NC92-N230 mainboard. The board has one integrated RTL8168/8111 gigabit NIC as well as an expansion board with three RTL8168/8111 NICs. Why would the three NICs work while the onboard NIC does not? none2@pci0:1:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0x816810ec chip=0x816810ec rev=0x02 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor' device

4k sector support in Solaris 11?
If I want to use a batch of new Seagate 3TB Barracudas with Solaris 11, will zpool let me create a new pool with ashift=12 out of the box or will I need to play around with a patched zpool binary (or the iSCSI loopback)? -- Dave Pooser Manager of Information Services Alford Media http://www.alfordmedia.com

Ajax Request Caching by Timestamp?
Hi everyone, first post here in the forum. I''m usually in #rubyonrails on freenode. I''ve been thinking about the various types of caching, and I was wondering if its possible to have the server selectively send back data, instead sending nothing ''0'' if user has the newest data. My example is a presence monitor, and it seems like the logic is: - Rails caches

Assuming I''m going to be using three 8-drive RAIDz2 configurations, and further assuming this server will be used for backing up home directories (lots of small writes/reads), how much benefit will I see from the SAS interface? -- Dave Pooser, ACSA Manager of Information Services Alford Media http://www.alfordmedia.com

7.1, mpt and slow writes
Hello, I think this needs a few more eyes: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-scsi/2009-January/003782.html In short, writes are slow, likely do to the write-cache being enabled on the controller. The sysctl used in 6.x to turn the cache off don't seem to be in 7.x. Thanks, Charles ___ Charles Sprickman NetEng/SysAdmin Bway.net - New York's Best Internet - www.bway.net

rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refused
My BIND9.6.0 on FreeBSD 6.2 works fine when I manually start with: root@ns2# named -4 -S 1024 -c /etc/namedb/named.conf But it won't start on boot and no error messages or log. And it won't start using rndc, it cause error message. Why does the error shows port 953 when I specified for port 53 in the config? rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refused Below are

Good SLOG devices?
Hi I''m running OpenSolaris 148 on a few boxes, and newer boxes are getting installed as we speak. What would you suggest for a good SLOG device? It seems some new PCI-E-based ones are hitting the market, but will those require special drivers? Cost is obviously alsoo an issue here.... ext2 inode size patch - RE: PR kern/124621
A while back, I submitted a patch for PR kern/124621, which allows the mounting of an ext2(3) filesystem created with an inode size other than 128. The e2fsprogs' default is now 256, so file systems created on newer Linux distributions or with the port will not be mountable. I was hopeful this would get committed in time for 7.1-RELEASE (and 6.4-RELEASE), however the PR remains open. If

Performance drop during scrub?
Hi all I have a test system with snv134 and 8x2TB drives in RAIDz2 and currently no Zil or L2ARC. I noticed the I/O speed to NFS shares on the testpool drops to something hardly usable while scrubbing the pool. How can I address this? Will adding Zil or L2ARC help? Is it possible to tune down scrub''s priority somehow? Best regards roy -- Roy Sigurd Karlsbakk (+47) 97542685 roy at
