External decoders?
Should we start thinking about including APE, ALAC, etc decoders? it'd make
encoding to flac a lot easier, and quicker, just wondering. I mean if
nothing else, FFmpeg has free decoders, and Apple released their official
ALAC codec awhile back.

Alignment of the StoreInst
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the explanation. The above code snippets is actually extracted
by bugpoint from
MultiSource/Applications/ALAC/encode/alacconvert-encode.test.
I get a different result if I cast the pointer to int and mask away the
lower two bits and cast the int back to pointer. While casting pointer to
int and back to pointer do not cause any problem.
Thanks

Idea to possibly improve flac?
First of all, I am not aware of any official source of FLAC files
that provide MP3 sourced data. I meticulously check the music I
purchase, especially when it is 24/48 or 24/96 material, because this
is new technology, and sometimes people get it wrong.
However, you should be aware that many modern producers use software
to create their music, and when the software stores sound clips in

A-law and mu-law
Hi Martijn,
thank you for your answer. So the problem would be suboptimal
compression due to suboptimal assumption about the input signal, right?
What I do not understand is how the format of a FLAC format would be
affected by supporting A-law and mu-law files as input (and thus
output). Despite of suboptimal performance, is it possible to treat 8bit
*-law samples as 8bit linear PCM files and

Hi Brian.
I also agree with you on these points you mention. If you guys are familiar on how the piracy groups work on the internet, you are aware that they have "releases" with their names on it. In the piracy "scene", some groups are competing on getting the first release out, and could only be beaten by another group releasing another higher quality release. Some groups (or

Playing FLAC Files on Audi MMI
Hello,
I am hoping that perhaps you know the answer to my car audio question,
or can at least point me in the right direction. I own a 2013 Audi S4
that has the 3G-Plus Multi Media Interface (MMI) with the Bang & Olufsen
Sound System.
The MMI is able to playback lossy, compressed audio files (MP3, WMA and
AAC), but does not have native support for FLAC, ALAC, or WMA Lossless.

Idea to possibly improve flac?
I for one am not worried about getting mp3 encoded stuff in my flac
files, but I want to respond about "legitimate" OggFLAC.
OggFLAC as a format for files, I agree, used by no one. However, I
don't know of any other open source way to stream lossless audio.
Maybe I did not look hard enough. Certainly nothing I can think of
that would hope to be compatible with standard media player

streaming support?
Dear FLAC developers,
I'm a student at CSU Dominguez Hills and I'm doing a research paper about "codecs for streaming HD audio" for my audio recording class. I'm curious if you folks could answer a few questions or offer any important information, technical or otherwise, about your popular lossless codec. It would be great if I could get an official reference. I will of

Unofficial sources (such as Usenet and that torrent site with the old
fashioned sailing ship as its logo) are much more likely to have FLAC
files that were made from lossy audio.
And I vaguely remember reading

Opus now supported at Magnatune
This seemed to be the best place to let you guys know....
Magnatune.com's entire catalog is now downloadable in Opus format, with full metadata (small and large cover art) at 128k stereo.
A few comments:
1) I'm really impressed by your metadata implementation. It's very cleanly done, and the multiple artwork idea is fantastic. One suggestion: I couldn't find an example in the

Idea to possibly improve flac?
Hi folks!
Due to the fact that more and more users increasingly use MP3 < 320kbps as their source for encoding music, and publish it as flac files, I suggest that something is done in the flac encoder to possible avoid this.
My idea is kinda easy/stupid, but might work;
Implement a function that use a FFT to check if the input has frequencies > 16kHz, and informs the user that the file

[RFC] Allowing debug intrinsics to reference multiple SSA Values
Currently, the debug intrinsic functions each have 3 arguments: an SSA value representing either the address or Value of a local variable, a DILocalVariable, and a complex expression. If the SSA value is an Instruction, and that Instruction is at some point deleted, we attempt to salvage the SSA value by recreating the instruction within the complex expression. If the instruction cannot be

Yes, these are both the same. It means the compiler will assume those
facts when reasoning about
