padawan seeks advice from jedi masters to create toggle box via ajax/rjs before slitting wrists with ruby powered light-saber.
I AM TRYING TO MAKE A DAMN TOGGLE BOX, BUT USING MY OWN GRAPHIC AND HAVING
THE MOUSECLICK TRIGGER BOTH SWITCHING THE GRAPHIC (via AJAX) AND SAVING THE
STATE IN THE DATABASE.
I GOT IT ALL WORKING WITH NORMAL HTML GET CALLS TO THE SERVER, BUT I NEED IT
TO BE AJAXIFIED SO THAT THE PAGE DOESN''T RELOAD.
AND TO COMPLICATE MATTERS, IT HAS TO WORK IN A TABLE WITH AN ARBITRARY
NUMBER OF ENTRIES, AND MUST OF COURSE SPECIFICALLY UPDATE ITS OWN ROW ONLY.
So far:
I have an orders table. I want to have a graphic within <div id=<%= ''"''...

support back button
There are a couple of links in the wiki about AJAX and the back
button, but seem to be broken.
I have a page with AJAXified tables and normal links. When the user
modifies some table, follows a normal link, and presses the back
button, the shown tables are the original ones (modifications are OK
in backend). Is there some standard solution to this?

checkbook application
By any chance are there any free checkbook apps that have been written
for Ruby? Looking to free myself from Gnucash/Grisbi/Quicken but don''t
quite have the skills/time to make my own app. Has anyone done this and
want to share?

Select Box Question
Hi,
Yet another newbie here... I''m writing an appliction in Rails, and I''ve
Ajaxified my select boxes so they update dynamically. I used the
"observe_field" method to monitor changes to my select box. I find that
it''s kind of erratic... it updates constantly and makes the selection
for me, based on where my mouse happens to be hovering when it does its
obs...

render :partial + redirect_to :controller
This is of course disallowed, which I discovered only after nearly
completing my spanking new ajaxified UI. What is the motivation behind
this, and what is the best workaround?
This UI does a scriptaculous drag-and-drop of items from a first div
(div1) over to a second div (div2), which triggers the contents of div2
to be updated to reflect the drop. No prob, thus far. But then the
contents...

format.html and redirect_to
I was wondering what the purpose of wrapping a redirect_to in a
format.html block is. I get why you''d want to do this with a render,
but if you''re redirecting the browser to another URL, what''s the
point? As I understand it, when redirect_to is called, Rails sends a
302 back to the browser, so I''m having trouble understanding why
format plays any part in this.

using dynamic element ids with visual_effect
Mike and I demo an Ajaxified version of the Depot application in the
Rails Studio. Part of the demo is a cart in the sidebar which updates
when you add a product to it. As well as updating the div, it also
highlights the most recently added link item. Right now, we do it with:

RJS and calendar_helper troubles .... tab characters covering web page
We have implemented calendar_helper.rb to generate an ajaxified calendar
using rjs templates. Everything worked fine until we added a drop down to
select the current month. Now when select a month and the calendar refreshes
to that selected month we get a ton of ''\t'' displayed all over the page
inside what looks like to be a javascript debug...

link_to_remote (AJAX) and tables: IE issues, validation?
I have a table that lists domain names, with a form next to it to add
new domains.
I have AJAXified this so that new domains are immediately added as table
rows. This works fine in Firefox 1.5/Win, but not in IE6/Win. Domains
are added into the database, but the HTML table is not updated unless
you reload the page.
Some googling tells me there are issues with e.g. link_to_remote
updating t...

Functional Testing - page actions
Pretty simple question, I''ve tried to ajaxify some actions and the first
one I did was a delete -
def delete_job
.....
render :update do |page|
page.remove "job_#{id}"
end
....
end
and in my functional test I call this function via post
def test....
post :delete_job, :id => 1
assert_response :success
......
end
after the assert_response, how do I test that the page

Action working in local, not working once deployed
Hello
I have a form (new/create) which works well in local, but not when
deployed where it keeps being redirected to the index action when I
submit.
Here is what I have done so far :
- de-Ajaxified the form to be pure HTML
- put a logger.info on the first line of the create action and
realised I did not pass through the action
- I have suppressed all the before_filter actions for this controller
and the application.rb
- the logs (log_level :debug) do not show a lot : the new action is
follo...
