Assistance much appreciated
...I had installed when packaging (the latest also looks at the TL level, hence 5.3.7.0 rather that 5.3.0.0)
Only looking at the rte (runtime) filesets - this is what I have added:
All are available via http:://www.aixtools.net (wiki interface) or
http://download.aixtools.net (self-service).
The AIXTOOLBOX approach uses rpm for packaging - which I did not
understand when I got started several years back. And I am not switching
to rpm - following in the footsteps of Perzl because:
a) Michael Perzl does an excellent job of keeping the AIXTOOLBOX where
it should be - no need to replicate that
b) I ha...

R-devel, autotools and libtool
...d while they may use lib64 the gcc compiler uses ppc64
for it's 64-bit libraries. "Happy standardization"
c) IMHO - as I cannot speak for IBM - the "preference" for AIX is to not
use /usr/local (Someone, maybe it
was BULL, opted for /opt/freeware as a prefix. That is where AIXTOOLBOX
(family) install files. And the fun here is - some packages have mixed
32 and 64 bit members, others use the lib64 convention.
In any case, forcing /usr/local (when $prefix is defined to something
else) may break things (it has in earlier 'package' builds at least.)
and the way it is no...

[Bug 446] New: $LOGIN not set by openssh under AIX
...disables X11Forwarding, so that doesn't
help us much. Some scripts (most notably netscape at the present)
reference $LOGIN, so if users ssh into our machines, the script will
blow up. This seems like a reasonable thing to do since the AIX
native remote login facilities set this variable. The AIXtoolbox
group which maintains the AIX version of openssh for IBM is
incorporating this patch into their version.
What are the chances of getting this incorporated into the openssh
distribution?

AIX 4.3.3. e rsync 2.5.5
Hi,
At Rs6000/AIX-4.3.3 the rsync-2.5.5 works ok when make local
connections or I use -e rsh or -e ssh for remote connections, like:
(OK) ./rsync -vacz . /user
(OK) ./rsync -vacz -e rsh . user@10.4.2.199:user
(OK) ./rsync -vacz -e ssh . user@10.4.2.199:user
but with standart remote rsync without -e
(NOK) ./rsync -vacz . user@10.4.2.199::user
returns:
rsync: failed to connect to 10.4.2.199:

I have been struggling with this error message - and think I finally
understand it's context.

Line by line debugging shows me the function works:
