name mangling makes 8.3 unreadable unlike Windows fileserver
...less in the context of the
File->Open dialog box. Instead of the first few characters, we get maybe
1 character the same if we're lucky, which in a directory of thousands
makes it impossible to find. For example, instead of "S:\Air
conditioning control system" becoming "S:\AIRCON~1" like it would
before, it's displayed in this program as "S:\A51FHG~S".
In our directory of client identifiers with their contact names
appended, formerly directory mangling would leave enough characters
intact that client identifiers could still be used. Not anymore.

Regular crashes
I have just setup asterisk on a debian sarge box. I am running Asterisk
1.21 with AMP and chan_capi_cm 0.6.1 using a BT Speedway (AVM Fritz)
ISDN card, connected to a BT ISDN2e line. Currently we have 6 extensions
(SIP) configured all using CounterPath(Xten) eyebeam softphone.
After many hours of Googling I have finally got it all setup and
working. We can transfer calls internally and make and

Latest kernel fixes AMD cool 'n quiet
...g at 1ghz when the system is idle.
I'm very surprised as I checked the changelog (rpm -q --changelog) and
there was no specific mention of any fix that I could find.
I had actually toyed with the idea of running another distro on the
server as it lives in my garage which, obviously, has no Aircon and the
summers here in Brisbane get pretty hot.

ldap passdb failover
Hi,
Does the
passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap.daa.com.au ldap://yaminon.daa.com.au",
smbpasswd
syntax actually do proper failover? I have a samba 3.0.9 server on FC2
that's been overheating (our aircon failed), and the ldap server doesn't
start automatically. The logs said:
[2006/01/10 08:55:47, 0] lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open_connection(678)
Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Can't contact LDAP server
Later, doing some testing, I stopped the local (primary) ldap server and

Off Topic: UPS units and heat generation
...e is almost no load on it (idle load is one
PC, one switch, one wireless AP, and thats it). It is very warm to the
touch, and just gets worse when I turn on the rest of the kit (tape
autoloader, TFTs, CRTs, two other PCs). With the UPS kicking out heat,
and the outside temps going up and up, my AirCon unit was on pretty much
all weekend to stop the kit (and myself) from melting.
Trying to get "idle heat generation" information about UPS units from
any manufacturer is quite hard. Its not one of the items they have on
their spec sheets or website, and my attempt at getting info from...
