Character encoding mystery
Hi everyone, I have a very annoying character encoding problem. Have a look to this: # ls -l M*mo-1.* -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 8417218 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.aif -rwxr--r-- 1 hope hope 8417218 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.aif -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 363175 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.m4a -rwxr--r-- 1 hope hope 363175 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.m4a Yes, it looks like two files have exactly the same name, but actually they're different: one as "é" encoded as 0x...

command-line: AIFF writer advice
The patch I submitted only reads AIFF files. I'm about to start the patch to write AIFF files. To do so, we need a command-line option to specify AIFF. My inclination is to add an option: -ff { raw | wav | aif } In some sense, "-ff" is silly since it probably stands for "format format". Still, I think it...

FLAC 1.2.1 on OS X 10.4.11
hi, according to the FAQ flac supports multichannel formats. i had no luck with 1.1.4 though ( "Untitled.aif: ERROR: unsupported number channels 8 for AIFF" ), i guess that feature was added in 1.2? unfortunately, the binary for 1.2 does not run on OS X 10.4 (says libiconv is too old). i removed libiconv and reinstalled that from source, but then flac 1.2.1 just prints "Bus error" an...

syslinux problem... (?)
...n such string appears in syslinux screen. Verify if it was burned OK MD5SUM is 1ceb835d6b3c8e390d0ec4b6c913dc27. If is right, then such BIOS is really broken. I wrote: I've just checked. MD5SUM is OK. Bios problem? It's been at least two years since I've installed arch linux (using AIF). I came from debian. My question is how/why my pc boots fine archlinux (x86_64 - grub2) all this time? My pc has the same hardware. Nothing changed all these years. A month ago after a problem (due to my mistake), locked me out of arch. I had to boot from a cd and to chroot to my system. I had...

Solving equations
Hello, Does somebody knows if there exists a function which solves a set of equation, say f(vars), for the variables vars (similar to Solve in mathematica). The functions I am considering are of the form f(t) ~ A*exp(B*t), where A and B are matrices. Thanks Thomas

[Bug 1308] New: iptables -i + is broken in v1.8.0
...OS: RedHat Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P5 Component: iptables Assignee: netfilter-buglog at lists.netfilter.org Reporter: arnova at rocky.eld.leidenuniv.nl I'm one of the authors of Arno's Iptables Firewall(AIF). Previously you could use "iptables -i +" as a wildcard match (basically a noop). Now in version 1.8 this is broken. Our script relies on this functionality as it makes parsing rules and generating iptables rules much easier/cleaner. Could this fixed please? -- You are receiving this m...

encoding wave files into ogg vorbis?
Hi everyone, I am a newbe with the Ogg Vorbis libraries. I am trying to create a program in C++ that will allow me to take a 16 bit, stereo wave file at 44.1 khz and encode it into ogg vorbis. I have looked at the encoder example in the vorbis SDK, but I did not quite understand it. My question, therefore, is how to encode such a stream into vorbis? A simple tutorial would be very much

How to Choose Video Converter?
...rter (http://www.sothinkmedia.com/video-converter/) supports AVI (DivX, XivD), MP4, MKV, MOV, WMV, TS, FLV, SWF, ASF, MPG, 3GP, 3G2, VOB, and DV. That will probably be enough. Most video converters also support audio, and usually the formats should be MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC, AC3, OGG, MKA, FLAC, WAV, AIF, and AU. As the high definition video came, the video converter had better support H.264 HD video conversion, too. What?s more, some multifunctional video converter products even supports DVD format, which means it is both a video converter and DVD ripper software. The best DVD Ripper (http://www....
