AHCI or IDE?
....com/storage_home/products_home/host_bus_adapters/sas_hbas/internal/sas9211-8i/index.html rpool = 2vdev mirror tank = 2 x 2vdev mirror. For the future I want to have the option to expand up to 12 x 2vdev mirror. After reading the board manual I found at page 4-9 where I can set SATA#1 from IDE to AHCI. Can zfs handle AHCI for rpool? Can zfs handle AHCI for tank? Thx for helping. -- Regarrds Alexander

sata AHCI controllers (real and virtual)
I saw something somewhere about AHCI support requiring kernel 2.6.19 or later. But the current CentOS/RHEL stable kernels are 2.6.18 I'm trying to run CentOS/RHEL in a VirtualBox vm, which by default creates sata virtual disks with an AHCI virtual controller. These virtual machines are quite unstable, and I'm wondering if th...

Centos 5.3, no AHCI on HP DL320 G5p?
I have one HP Proliant DL320 G5p, where for some reason, the AHCI mode is not enabled. According to server specs, it should have AHCI/NCQ capability, but ata_piix module gets loaded during bootup, not ahci module. Any ideas how to enable AHCI mode? lspci output: # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 3200/3210 Chipset DRAM Controller (rev 01) 00:01.0...

SATA DVD Burner / AHCI / CentOS 4.7 (kernel: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL)
OK, it seems that the kernel I have (stock CentOS 4.7: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL i686) seems to gronk the nVideo SATA controller in AHCI mode. It is NOT able to deal with the SATA DVD Burner I have. It is a "Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model AD-7241S-0B LightScribe Support". Is there some special magic I need to do? Here is the relevant bit from the boot up (SATA ports 2-6 are empty at present):...

AHCI and correct drive geometry?
Hey folks, So what's the word on AHCI and bios drive geometry? I'm having a real pain of a time trying to get some 750gb sata drives running on my FreeBSD7 box in AHCI mode. It doesn't seem to matter what disk geometry I suggest to sysinstall, something complains of an invalid disk upon booting it. Actually, in AHCI mode th...

AHCI at boot?
I'm having trouble getting a Centos installation to boot on a system with hdd's hanging off an AHCI hba. Long ago, I posted about only seeing four of the six sata ports on my asus server board. According to research I've done since then (I now need the ports!), the solution is to enable the AHCI bios, which turns on NCQ and the last two ports. The already installed system does not like the...

AHCI support in CentOS 5.2?
My friend has an external sata hard disk, and likes the hot-plug feature. However, that works only if the appropriate sata setting in the motherboard bios is set to AHCI (IDE compatibility and RAID are two other options, but hot-plugging doesn't work with them). The machine has WinXP atm, while Linux is about to be installed in the following couple of days. Now, on wikipedia I read that AHCI is supported starting from kernel 2.6.19 and later, while current...

C5: prevent loading of AHCI in favor of "fakeraid" megaide
...fakeraid and here is the problem: - The readme tells me to install with the "nostorage" kernel option and I can load the megaide driver with the driver disk. - in anaconda I only see one disk sda - exactly what I want. - after installation when booting the 92.el5 kernel obviously the ahci driver is used not the megaide, LVM complains about identical PVs on sda and sdb and I can unload megaide while running the server - so megaide is not used upon reboot but ahci - megaide is inside the initrd but - probably because ahci loads first - not used Question: How can I prevent th...

problem with installing centos 5.3 on sata ahci
Hello, I am trying to install Centos on sata ahci. The installer first waits few minutes while loading ahci module. Then, the installer cannot detect any disk during the partitioning phase. What might be the problem? I have switched to IDE in bios and it still is the same. Best regards, mjb

Question about the ahci kernel module: missing in the CentOS (4) Plus kernel
Is there some reason the ahci kernel module is *missing* from the 2.6.9-89.0.16.plus.c4 kernel? It is in the standard 2.6.9-89.0.16.EL kernel. Is this due to an oversight or is there some sort of conflict? I wanted to add IEEE1394 support to my system running CentOS 4.8. I *looks* like what I need to do is download the kerne...

SATA hotswap

Or is it possible? :) We're using hotswap AXX6DRV3G for 6 SATA disks from Intel connected directly to MB (S5520HC from Intel too). There is AHCI as driver (enabled in bios), no HW raid. I found, something like that echo "0 0 0" >/sys/class/scsi_host/host<n>/scan but it found only sda disk which is already running.. Using CentOS 5.5, x86_64. CentOS 5.3 SuperMicro x7sbi AHCI
...upgrading to CentOS 5.3 the Hard Drive LED's on some of the servers started blinking red(drive fail) but all is functioning normally. All servers are running raid 1 arrays with MDADM. Primary drive does not blink, but all others do including spares. These boards use the Intel ICH9R chipset. AHCI is enabled. When AHCI is disabled, drives stop blinking, but drives are then detected as hda, hdb, etc. and server takes a huge performance hit. All Servers have Western Digital SATAII 320G RE2 Drives. So far: I have reloaded Kernels Tried CentOS plus Kernels Flashed the Bios Replaced Backplane T...
