anyone interested in an Effect.Slideshow?
I had to make a sort of slideshow for a site I''m working on, and I was
thinking of making it into a Scriptaculous object. Anyone think of
reasons why I shouldn''t? You''d have to pass in all the image urls and a
div id, with an optional delay parameter to determine how long to leave
each image up before moving on. I could also have a ''randomize''

FreeBSD - 2 soundcards?
...several in one box.
I realise a BSD list would be a better place for this, but who else but
streaming folk would ever think about multiple sound cards?
After installing a second card, when I makedev snd1, it creates all the
usual devices but ending in a 1, eg. /dev/dsp1, /dev/audio1. So I think
ahah! I now have dsp and dsp1! But these turn out to be links to the first
devices, eg. /dev/dsp, /dev/audio.
Has anyone ever managed this?

Cube Size Changes?
Listmates,
Interesting difference in size. The cube now seems to have grown in
size during rotate. See the differences:

Is there a setting that controls this?

[LLVMdev] Cygwin port

Alright, this time everything works quite a bit better. However:
tools\llvm-ld\llvm-ld.cpp
needs the CopyFile() invocation fix identical to gccld.cpp
Also, it turns out gcc 3.3.3 in cygwin is buggy and it's unable

Ruby on Rails is great! - It''s so easy ... I can code while smashed and
still get work done!
I work from home. I code hard and get a lot done. Ruby on Rails makes my
productivity so much higher than I can actually be drunk ... and still
impress my boss!
It''s great.
Do you have experiences like this? Do you code better while unable to
walk the line? Does the loosening

question about icecast & winamp & media player
Ahah!
I knew I was not the only person who has experienced this with winamp. The
problem here is winamp 2.7. It seems that when I tuned into my shoutcast
servers (when I ran shoutcast) with winamp 2.7 the longest period I could
hold a stream was a little more then an hour. No matter what I did it would...

That darned orphaned socket hang
Stephen,
OK, I can now reproduce this hang at will, purely by pulling the plug
on my desktop when logged in and then rebooting - its a gnome desktop
box with few partitions and ext3 on all of them, so I guess its getting
a pile of gnome or ssh related sockets kept in /tmp which is on root
To recap, when the machine is suffering from this, it hangs at the
point of mounting the root filesystem

Ubuntu 16.04 dovecot-core requires deprecated ntpdate
I'm building a new Ubuntu 16.04 machine, including Dovecot.
When I select the dovecot-core package in Synaptic, it also wants to install
ntpdate.
Problem: ntpdate has been replaced in Ubuntu with timedatectl. In fact, if
ntpdate exists on the machine, ntpd will not work properly.

Liveice+Darkice?
Hello,
Could the experienced people help me?
1:) Is it possible to start liveice in the background like icecast and shout??
2:) If I insert another sound card to PC(it will have 2 or more sound
cards). Is it enough to specify "SOUND_DEVICE" option to /dev/dspX in
liveice.cfg and start another liveice session with that configuration file???
3:) With many efforts I fail to start darkice

kldload: Unsupported file type
Since updating to 6.3-RELEASE on two machines I see this message a lot.
It is printed whenever a kernel module is loaded.
The modules load OK. Nothing special or different about them.
It seems to be harmless, but any idea why it's started happening since
the release?
Cheers

problems with plot.formula
With the recent changes in R 1.9.x, it is now impossible to properly call

Managing sensitive strings with puppet
I''m new to Puppet, and I''m a software developer, not a sysadmin, so be
gentle. I have puppet managing some files via templates, and one of
the template variables that needs to be plugged in is a password of
sorts that shouldn''t be generally available. In particular, it can''t
be stored in the manifest, as that''s stored in version control, and

question about icecast & winamp & media player
Hi,
It's been pretty quiet as of late.
I have a question.
I have an icecast server housed at my provider with a very good internet
connection.
At work I'm using an ADSL line, which should be sufficient to listen to
the 128K streams I'm sending out.
However, when I listen with WinAmp, after about half an hour the stream
stutters and stops. I can restart it and listen again but it
