SWAT login agony
I've installed the latest/greatest from Samba (3.0.alpha...). I've been
following the directions from this site
(http://samba.linuxbe.org/en/samba/learn/swat.html) on how to set up
SWAT for configuring Samba. The problem I'm running into is logging
into SWAT. I've tried every user imaginable and still no luck. I've
enabled the SWAT service using xinetd, and it actually

R 3.0, Rtools3.0,l Windows7 64-bit, and permission agony
Having finally found some free time, I was going to use it to update a
bunch of R packages from 2.15 to 3.0.
I am running Windows 7, 64-bit professional. This is on a brand-new
laptop using vanilla settings when installing the operating system.
Problem 1: I installed R3.0 to the default location (C:\Program
FIles\R\R-3.0.0). The first thing I tried to do was install
BioConductor. This

[LLVMdev] tblgen and sign-extended constants too large for type
Allow me to rephrase my question: How much agony and gnashing of
teeth will I cause if I commit this patch to tblgen (fully tested and
changes to DAGISelEmitter.cpp also committed)?

halflife & wine
Well I've read all the docs/howtos for this and it's still not working
for me. Everytime I try to do a 'wine hl.exe' it gives me the good ol'
opengl is not supported on this device error. Nothing in the wine
console. This is with build 20010112 (and also a very recent
one...forget which). I did the enable-opengl configure flag.
I'm trying to run it on a mandrake

How can I use muliple cores of CPU in Windows or OS X?
Dear all,
I have about 50 pages of R codes and ran it in both OS X and Windows.
It takes at least haft a day to have the results. The running time is not very different in both Systems.
I found that R does not use all cores of CPU by default.
Can anybody help me to use all cores of CPU in my programming from the beginning or through programming in both OS X and Windows?
Many thanks your

config.log told me to report these (PR#12035)
Hello r-bugs,
I am running openSuse 11.0, with my new Intel 8500 (Penryn) C2D, and I want to use icc and ifort.
I was able to get a working Goto BLAS, following Dr. Goto's instructions.
That seems to work OK with gcc and gfortran.
I get about 10% faster computations by using -O3 rather than -O2.
I get faster results with Goto BLAS rather than the R BLAS.
Now I want to make icc and ifort

[LLVMdev] tblgen and sign-extended constants too large for type
Question: How hard should tblgen try to fit constants into a particular
type?
My case is an xor with i8 immediate where I'm using 0xff in as the
immediate value. 0xff should fit into i8 if treated as unsigned, but
CodeGenDAGPatterns.cpp assumes that any and all integers less than
32-bits are signed.
Should tblgen try to see if the sign-extended version of the constant
could fit into the

New Article: Centos 6 Postfix with GMail
I've just gone through complete agony bashing my head against the wall with
configuring Postfix and Centos to relay out through gmail. Gmail has kindly
(!?!?!?!) put two-factor authentication in place, which means a few tweaks
along the way - specifically, the addition on a "single-use" password purely
for relaying and the addition of a "yum -y install cyrus-sasl-plain"

processing of Fest in spatstat
Hello,
I'm using spatstat and generating G and K function curves, plotting the theoretical lines, etc. etc. I run multiple programs as batch files and can happily work 'up front' while R number crunches 'in back', until ...
I ask it to generate the F curve with Fest. When I invoke the 'F word' suddenly my happy coexistence with R, and even Linux, is over.

ARMA(1,1) for panel data
Dear List,
I am new to TS-Modeling in R. I would like to fit an ARMA(1,1) model
for a balanced panel, running Y on a full set of unit and year dummies
using an arma(1,1) for the disturbance:
y_it=unit.dummies+yeardummies+e_it
where: e_it=d*e_it-1+u_it+q*u_it-1
How can I fit this model in R? arma() does not seem to take covariates
(or I don't understand how to specify the function so that

I don't know what problems you had with it, but I'm hapilly using it on
about
20 servers (both djbdns and qmail) and never had a problem with it. I'll

aep_beast forum authorized? method problem?
hello
I have some problem in using aep_beast forum plugin base on rails engines.
Whenever I try to access forum/new page to create new forum, I meet the page
containing message (You don''t have access here.).
What I figure out so far through a lot of tests is the problem lying in
the authenticated_system.rb
When I try to access normal page which is also subject to

some EAQUAL results
For those who are interested, I've run 3 EAQUAL tests on both the LAME and
OGG encoders: LAME with the --alt-standard preset (with and without
--nspsytune) and OGGENC (RC3) with -q 6 (my personal "sweet spot")
I am somewhat unsure though about the validity of these tests, since the
original and decoded files were not the same size (2 KB difference). The LAME
encoded files were also

DID in the U.S.
Hello!
There is something I really don't get: As I ordered a PRI ISDN line in Germany
with DID, I had not to pay anything for a "DID number block", now I'm trying
to get a PRI ISDN in the U.S. (CA) and SBC wants to charge more than 200
USD/month for numbers. I mean, this has nothing to do with DID, where
everything that comes after the "base number" will be

Sending "..." to a C external
I'm trying to figure this out with "Writing R Extensions" but there's not a
lot of detail on this issue.
I want to write a (very simple really) C external that will be able to take
"..." as an argument.
(It's for optimizing a function that may have several parameters besides the
ones being optimized.)
I got the "showArgs" code (from R-exts) to compile and

Horrible Linux/Samba vs Windows political battle - can you help?
Greetings,
I am currently the IT Manager for a 30-person architectural firm. About
5 months ago we hired a new employee. He is quite good at what he does.
He is also extremely opinionated, particularly when it comes to computer
software, including server software.
I'm running the office server functions on RedHat, Fedora and Trustix
servers. He has managed to convince my boss that there

IP Phone recommendations?
Hey gang,
I'm looking at escaping from a Nortel Meridian CISC system to
Asterisk/Digium/SIP phones. I'm currently in the testing and proof of
concept phase. I'm going to need a SIP phone and don't want to
re-purchase and have "orphans" around.
We currently run Nortel 7310 phones and they work great.
I'm sort of overwhelmed by all of the different IP phones. I

Survey: Grandstream improvements.........
Hi List,
I had a wonderful meeting with GS's President last week
and he is very interested in feedback on what top features,
functions, bugs the community would like to see in upcoming
firmware.
Please keep in mind that adding new features take time
to develop, test and such.
So please rate your ideas on a scale of 1-10
