Bug?
Almighty Repo Maintainers, I believe the current repository version of Xen for Lenny stable may be afflicted with this bug, which prevents domUs from shutting down/rebooting properly. http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2009-01/msg00050.html What say you? First Wine use ever: problems in running Broken Sword 3
Hi there everybody! I am completely new to linux and it's the first time I'm running linux (Ubuntu). Today I installed Wine and tried running Broken Sword 3 (note that I have nto configured Wine or anything: only installed and used the wine command). All I can see is a black screen (semms like the application tries to run) and the I return to desktop with an 800x600 resolution. What should

certname=hostname SSL errors
Hi all, I ran into the following problem: Until now, i used fqdn as certname (i.e. had no certname defined in puppet.conf, so defaults applied) and everything worked fine. However, I wanted to use tthe short hostname as certname, so I redeployed the puppet.conf file, re-generated the certificates and signed them, and removed the old certificates from the master. Now I have the following status:

Problems with TDBs on CTDB-managed Samba instance
Hi All, My site has two separate clustered Samba instances (managed by two independent CTDB instances) running over GPFS. In the last couple of weeks, we have seen a recurring issue that causes the `smbd` process in *one* of these instances to become unresponsive (as seen by CTDB), which results in flapping of CTDB and multiple IP takeover runs. The symptoms that we observe are: 1) Samba

X11 font at size 6 could not be loaded
I recently upgraded my OS to Fedora 8 from Red Hat Enterprise Work Station 3. Before I upgraded certain operations would produce a warning to the effect that a desired font was not available so one had been substituted, which was okay. After the upgrade to Fedora 8, the plotting operation halts midway through and I get the following error message: "X11 font at size 6 could not be loaded"

SYSLINUX doing odd things since upgrade
Hello list! I'm tearing my hair out over this. I have a USB flash drive that has been working nicely with SYSLINUX for about a year, and I have upgraded SYSLINUX on it a couple of times during that period with no ill effects - including a complete format/re-install from scratch. However, on Friday I was using this drive (and it was working) and I decided to upgrade to the latest version

The repodata directory is currently broken on several, if not all, mirrors for the 6.5 iso files
...ir file names, not the full path name as defined in the xml file. This results in yum breaking just after partitioning. The only way I was able to get around this before modifying the iso file was to follow the onscreen prompt and enter in a valid mirror as an HTTP/FTP host. This issue is currently afflicting all variants of 6.5. As of this writing the two test files I just confirmed have this issue are: http://mirror.cisp.com/CentOS/6.5/isos/x86_64/CentOS-6.5-x86_64-minimal.iso http://mirrors.bluehost.com/centos/6.5/isos/x86_64/CentOS-6.5-x86_64-minimal.iso Last night I downloaded the minimal, livec...

2 part question
Is there a way to record your own voice messages ("Welcome to my PBX, Press 1 for ...") using asterisk and an analog phone, or do they need to be recorded using traditional voice recording software? Also, I am confused as to why my replies to the message board are never indented. Call this the ultimate newbie question, but how should the reply be worded so that I don't screw up

Why is my kernel eating my memory
Can someone, more learned in the ways of dtrace point me at what to look at to help understand why the kernel on one machine is using tons of memory, while another machine doing the same task/same user load is not. swapinfo for the "afflicted" machine shows RAM _______Total 16384 Mb RAM Unusable 73 Mb RAM Kernel 9226 Mb RAM Locked 2 Mb RAM Used

Tyan K8WE BIOS v1.03 and -STABLE
I tried updating the BIOS on my K8WE (S2895) yesterday to 1.03, but after the update, FreeBSD (RELENG_6 dated March 26) would randomly freeze after booting. As I was updating from v1.01, I suspect it may be the updates to the nVidia SATA firmware that caused the issue, as things generally froze shortly after the background fsck processed kicked in (with, obviously, the exception of the first

can you help me with empirical probability
I found you online....... Can you help with empirical probability? Hi Partha. I really liked your email that you sent me, it really inspired me. I have been breezing through the chapters, and doing quite well, You should be a teacher. After all the time my college instructor spent with the class on the slopes etc.... There were very few of us who really understood it. However, after reading

TreeCtrl#get_item_data
Hi I saw from the ChangeLog that [get|set]_client_data was removed from ComboBox for 0.4.0 because the methods weren''t working properly. TreeCtrl#get_item_data still seems to be there. I was wondering if someone who understood the issue could say if TreeItemData might also be afflicted with the same problems? I seem to be segfaulting quite a bit (actually, on TreeEvt#get_item), but it

disk drive sparing - questions not answers
I understand that ZFS provides fault data, via the zpool status command, that would (probably ??) allow a knowledgeable[0] zfs admin to determine (manually) when a zfs hardware element (today that''s usually called a "disk drive") might need "maintainence" or might need to be replaced. And there are sufficient features/facilities available in the current (b36+) release

scale factors/overdispersion in GLM: possible bug?
I've been poking around with GLMs (on which I am *not* an expert) on behalf of a student, particularly binomial (standard logit link) nested models with overdispersion. I have one possible bug to report (but I'm not confident enough to be *sure* it's a bug); one comment on the general inconsistency that seems to afflict the various functions for dealing with overdispersion in GLMs

ath(4) and 802.11g speed
So, with the updated HAL, I'm now able to negotiate an IP address via DHCP over the WLAN. Huzzah! But I've got two questions (now that I can use the card): ath(4) doesn't contain a list of media nor mediaopt settings that can be used. Some are detailed down in EXAMPLES, but there's no comprehensive list. (As well, and this is minor, the speeds are explicitly listed for 802.11a

looping through tasks
Hi, I'm moving (slowly) to R from STATA. I often have need to move through a set of tasks across a series of years. In this case, you can see that I'm mimicking -reshape- in STATA, but I'm less interested in the task than in programming R. library(foreign) mydata<-read.dta("z:\example.dta") for (y in 2000:2002) {
