Samba tuning advise
Helo,
We use a big fileserver running Linux/Samba as fileshare.
We are facing performances problems for which we'd like some advise :
Clients are OS2(LanManager) and windows 2000 reading and writing lots of
files in the same directory on the fileshare.
We currently have more than 80 000 files in the directory (files size is
about 100 Bytes).
Could you please advise us some Samba tuning

NAT/Proxy advise
Hi all,
Am looking for everyones advise/recommendations.
I have am setting up a network of both office and home based workers.
The office workers will be on the same network as the Asterisk box so no
NAT hassles there. However, the home workers are on their own DSL
connections so I imagine that most will be behind NAT.
I had hoped to use Sipura SPA-2000's but I presume I would need either

Good linux software RAID primer advise
Dear Experts,
Could someone recommend good Linux software RAID primer. It would be good
if it has good coverage of monitoring and dealing with failures.
I inherited a couple of boxes with big bunch of software RAIDs each, and I
even may have some problems, but I don't want to bother anybody with
specifics unless I really hit brick wall, not just my own ignorance.
Thanks in advance for all

Advise in R- plotting graphs

should vsftpd be disabled in favour of sftp for security reasons?
(another in an ongoing list of things i just want to clarify for the
sake of future courses taught on centos.)
from this RHEL doc page:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Deployment_Guide/s1-openssh-server-config.html
the reader is advised to, for the sake of security, remove/disable
vsftpd, ostensibly in favour of sftp/sftp-server. really?
i can obviously see disallowing stuff like telnet and rsh and
rlogin, that's a no-brainer. but advising against vsftpd for the sake
of security? i'm not sure i see the logic in that....

Why warning: "Server's Role (logon server) NOT ADVISED with domain-level security"
When using "smbmount" (but not mount.cifs), I get the warning
message:
Server's Role (logon server) NOT ADVISED with domain-level security
This has appeared after I added "security=domain" back into
my smb.conf file (seems I or an upgrade deleted it last December).
Why is it "not advised" to use the same machine for logon server
and domain security?
Is it just an "ommission"...

Advise sought: Upgrade from Rails 2.0.1 to current
I have upgraded from 1.2.6 to 2.0.1 and successfully passed all my
test and manual testing. Everything seems to be working correctly. My
application is pretty vanilla and so there where few complications.
Question is, should I do another point upgrade (and if so, which
point to upgrade to next) or is it safe (and prudent) to just go
straight on to the current version (2.3.x).

(no subject)
Hi
I need an advise if any one can help me.
i have mass of data in 2 array A and B:
A = 0 1 0 0 1 1 0 0
B = 0 0 0 1 0 1 1 1
and i have 3 rules to merge them into 3rd array C:
if A[i] + B[i] == 0 then C[i]=0
if A[i] + B[i] == 1 then C[i]=1
if A[i] + B[i] == 2 then C[i]=2
it looks easy but with the regular way (loop) with large data it takes days (i test it).
If any one can advise me what to do
