yum clean all - adverse effects?
Are there any adverse effects to "yum clean all"? Does the system lose
its memory of what is installed/updated?

OpenVPN over TCP 1194 rather than UDP 1194 - Is there an adverse effect when running Asterisk?
Hi Everyone,
For some reason a few phones connected to a pfSense box can't make or allow
in OpenVPN in port 1194 UDP. So, I established the VPN tunnel on 1194 TCP
and it works fine. I would like to know if there is any disadvantages to
using TCP over UDP for the tunnel when using Asterisk or is just as reliable
and solid as a UDP tunnel?
Thanks

Upgrading from Fedora Core 7 to CentOS 5.4
Hi there --
I need to upgrade one of our systems from its current distribution, Fedora Core
7, to the most recent
version distribution, release 5.4, of the CentOS operating system. Can I do an
in-place upgrade of the
operating system without any adverse side-effects? Are there any issues that I
should be concerned
with before proceeding? Thanks.

[LLVMdev] Lifetime of ExecutionEngine?
Given:

MyClass* set_fn( llvm::Function *fn ) {
// create an ExecutionEngine 'exec' ...
jit_fn_ptr_type fn_ptr = (jit_fn_ptr_type)exec->getPointerToFunction( fn );
return fn_ptr();
}
After I call getPointerToFunction() to obtain the pointer to the JIT'd function and fun the function (that will produce an instance of MyClass on the

OFF TOPIC: Nature article on File Drawer Problem in Reserach
I know you didn't want to stimulate discussion, but the problem is not
confined to publication. "Adverse reaction to medication" monitoring
programs are plagued by a similarly massive under-reporting problem:
adverse reactions are seldom reported unless they are particularly bad
or surprising. (The Ministry of Health in my country estimates 90% of
cases are never reported.)

How would you program an Adverse Events statistical table using R code?
A graph != A table.
I'm talking about a page full of summary statistics and advanced
statistics, with lots of cross categories on the top and left margin
of the table, as opposed to a visual display with x-axis and y-axis,
which is totally different.
(An example of how this is done in another language is available at
http://fivetimesfaster.blogspot.com )
For an AE table, you have an N and %

[LLVMdev] Lifetime of ExecutionEngine?
Hi Paul,
I'm surprised to hear that you aren't seeing any adverse effects. As I understand it, the memory for the function pointer returned by getPointerToFunction is owned by the JITMemoryManager which was used in creating the ExecutionEngine. In the case of the legacy JIT engine, the JITMemoryManager is owned by the JITEmitter which in turn is owned by the JIT ExecutionEngine. In the

logististic regression (GLM). How to get 95 pct. confidence limits?
Dear R-list.
I'm doing af logistic analyses using gml.
The model explaines variations in Adverse events infections (0 og 1) using
age as explanatory variable.
model2d<-glm(formula=AEorSAEInfecBac~Age,family=binomial("logit"),data=emrisk)
I want to get predictions with 95% confidence limits for age 30 and age 60.

Xend stop/start
Hello,
I''ve noticed that if I try to restart Xend via "/etc/init.d/xend stop"
then "/etc/init.d/xend start", I won''t receive any errors but then
when trying to execute "xm" commands after the restart I get error
asking if Xend is started. Is there anything else I need to make sure
gets stopped/started with Xend?
Another question ... domU reboots

How good is R at making publication quality tables?
Hello Everyone,
I have just started learning R and am in the process of figuring out what it can and can't do. I must say I am very impressed with R so far and am amazed that something this good can actually be free.
Recently, I finished reading R for SAS and SPSS Users and have begun reading SAS and R and Data Manipulation with R. Based on what I've read in these books and elsewhere,

External Authentication
That is correct. I'm not adverse to using AD. I've used real AD in many
environments in the past and to be honest the Samba4 AD seems to work
really well. I just need to have all my users from our central LDAP. The
passwords would need to match so that students, faculty and staff can use
the existing campus wide tools. Thank you.

Mounting W2k3 share on Linux client.
Dear All
Is it possible to mount a share hosted on a Windows 2003 box, that
exists in an AD domain, on linux client. I can connect to the same
share using SMBClient but cannot mount the share using mount -t smbfs.
I have read on the forum that there are problems but couldn't determine
if it was possible or not.
If some one could clarify for me if this is possible or not I'd be
grateful

btrfs kernel bug while balancing
Hi, I just encountered this kernel bug when I executed "btrfs balance start /". I''m sorry if this is not enough data but I couldn''t save the log as my system didn''t respond after the dmesg. It said "kernel bug" before the trace.
