home share issue: //server/homes errs, while //server/<username> works
Hello list,
I'm running a samba server in AD domain, with some AD users explicitly
mapped into local users by "username map = sambauser.map", which is a text
file.
Problem is found with explicitly mapped user, I can only access home share
by //server/<ADusername>, not //server/homes (using windows explorer). This
feels wrong because I also tried those AD users not listed in the map file,
they could access home share either way.
So it's bothering me, any idea what did I miss out anything or it's a samba
bug?

using windows ad accounts for centos 5
...lc.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=2 to authenticate my ad
accounts when logging on to cent 5...however, once I edit the
nsswitch.conf file, I can't even log on as root or any local users
anymore. Kinit seems to initialize fine doing a kinit
username at MYDOMAIN.COM , however doing a getent passwd adusername ....it
just sits there in the shell and does nothing. I actually had to put all
files back to where they were before the change to even be able to login
locally or use sudo.
I followed the steps line by line on this article but get stuck
everytime....anyone has an idea or a better documented w...

Samba + AD etc.
...oup works
What I cannot seem to get working is when someone logs onto the domain, and
then tries to map a drive to the samba server, its like the credentials
arent getting passed onto samba, or rather samba is unable to look them up
properly.
Am I missing a vital step/componant?
Things like su - ADUSERNAME don't work, and neither does chown, chgrp
commands ( are they even ment to work?)
Any help, ideas, WHY HAVNT YOU READ THIS FAQ (I probably have in fairness)
gratefully received.
Cheers

Winbind home directory not resolving properly
...gured two 9.10 systems, one works perfectly. I've copied
most of the files over to the non-working system; they are configured
identically as far as I can tell.
On both systems, wbinfo -u/-g, getent passwd, and ssh login work fine.
On the working one, I can also log in via gdm/gnome and use
~adusername in paths in the terminal. In the non-working one, the
~adusername is "unknown" (although ~localuser works fine), and gnome
sessions blow up in a big way (dbus errors, which I think are related
to the first problem).
I'm relatively familiar with the system authentication and account...

Samba and Active directory groups
...ot;
directory mode = 0775
valid users = @"ADGROUP+domain test_access2"
write list = @"ADGROUP+domain test_access2"
read list = @"ADGROUP+domain test_access2"
If someone try to access the samba server (\\sambaserver<file:///\\sambaserver>) it will create "ADusername" directory on the server. (user Mary access the server it will create a directory named mary automatically ) I need to redirect them to a specific directory based on the Active directory group access .
Can someone help to me solve the issue.
Thanks,

Using winbind authentication with Windows 2003 AD - SSH login failures
Hi all,
I have been trying to setup authentication of users on a Linux server
against Windows server 2003 using winbind.
I am at the point where an
su - ADUSERNAME
works, but sshing as that user still doesn't work.
When I try to ssh as an AD user as follows:
ssh -l "RILINUX+testuser" server.domain.com
I get the following output in /var/log/messages:
server pam_winbind[5906]: request failed: No such user, PAM error was
10, NT error was NT_STAT...

share permissions for AD groups
...ok , we joined AD domain w.o problems ,
getent * shows all like expected
same for wbinfo
The big problem remaining is , we want to restrict access to shares to given
AD groups that way:
valid users = @ADDOMAIN+ADGROUP
that doesnt work in any combination, the other way
valid users = @ADDOMAIN+ADUSERNAME
works without any probem
there is no user or groupmapping at all

net ads user info .vs. wbinfo -g ?
The group names from these two commands display differently. For example:
$ net ads user info my-name -U my-name
.
.
Systems Engineering EU
$ wbinfo -g
.
.
systemsengineeringeu.write
Why is this different?

John
