Samba3 & ADMT, cannot migrate SIDs
I'm attempting to migrate a Samba 3.x / NT domain to Active Directory. I have a Windows 2003 SE host and ADMT. I've established trusts between the Samba 3 domain and the Windows 2003 AD domain. I can use "User Account Migration Wizard" up to the "Account Transition Options". Then of I check the option to Migrate SIDs it fails with - "Could not verify auditing and TcpipClie...

Adding a Windows Server down the road
I just started at a new company and they do not have a server at all I want to put a samba server in place but I need to make sure that in the future I could add a windows server if we buy software that requires it. Does anybody know if this is possible to do? I ideally I would like it to import the users and their information to the AD on the windows server but is not required. Thanks

HOW TO: Migrating users' locally-stored profiles from one domain or workgroup to a new domain
...tactic doesn't work. There is another method that I've developed which seems to work pretty well. It involves messing with permissions and the registry, so caveat administrator. II. Active Directory Migration Tool: The Microsoft Way Microsoft provides the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) for migrating user accounts, groups, and machine accounts from one domain to another as an installable tool from the Windows Server 2003 CD. You can also download it from Microsoft; go to http://download.microsoft.com/ and search for ADMT. I have used it on several occasions for migrating accounts...

Re: Migrating domain from Samba 3 to Windows 2003 (here's how to do it)
...on. > >Any experiences of suggestion are appreciated in advance, >Ben > > Yes, I successfully migrated from Samba 3 to Windows 2003. I used the Active Directory Migration Tool from Microsoft; it's on the Windows Server 2003 CD (I don't remember exactly where, but look for ADMT). There are a few things that will make the ADMT fail, so be aware of them: 1) Set up a DNS server that's authoritative for your new 2003 domain (this will typically be in the first domain controller, but doesn't have to be). Then in your servers' and workstations' TCP/IP config...

Samba "hijack" the connection?
Dear all, I have 2 domains: JUPITER.COM (Samba 3.0.23c - Centos5) and WIN.COM (Windows 2000 Adv Srv). I join a windows XP SP1 (MOON), first to Windows domain and then to Samba's. The problem is when I join the XP to Samba's and then try to logon to WIN.COM, the XP is instead logon to Samba, thus the username is not found. The DNS is not a problem, I set the DNS of the XP to

Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's..... I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration (A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the migration since it involves Linux. Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is going to be a completely new

...chema version (among other things). Thus I couldn't join WS 2016 DCs and take out the Samba DC. So unless Samba is updated, once I have AD with Samba-only DC I can't get to WS 2016 with my domain, right? The other way would be to go to WS 2016 straight away. I've heard there's this ADMT tool that can get you from a NT4-style domain to a modern AD domain. But assuming I do that and have WS2016 DCs, can Samba 4.7.x at least join as a member to act as a file server? Also, a kind of unrelated question: Are the passwords from the NT4 domain somehow rehashed to whatever AD uses? I'...

Migrating user accounts Samba 3.5.3 to Windows 2003 (2008)
...need to get the SID history set correctly as well. From what I've researched so far, I'm aware of http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-April/103743.html and http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-June/107028.html which basically state that this migration should be possible using ADMT. As far as I know, I have all prerequisites in places as listed in those postings, however, I still cannot get ADMT to run. It does find the Samba server and recognises it as domain controller for OLDDOMAIN, but when I ask it to migrate SID history as well, I get a rather cryptic error "Co...

samba-tool samba3upgrade question
Hi everyone, I'm looking into using this tool for migration to samba4, however I'm unable to determine if it requires any intervention on the domain members like ADMT does? After looking into the source code I see that the domain SID remains the same. Does this mean that the members (WinXP & 7) will continue to function properly? Will they start using AD membership functionality such as Group policies and kerberos automatically? Regards, Deyan -- Deyan...

Migrating from 2.2.8 to AD 2008R2
...e if needed. I've found various recommendations and documentation for moving from samba 3.x to win2003 using Active Directory Migration Tool. From what I've read it' s possible, although user passwords get reset. Can anyone advise me if version 2.28a can be successfully migrated using ADMT? I'm thinking the signorseal issue in 2.x might cause problems. I'd really prefer not to upgrade to a 3.x version, both because there may be compatibility problems on fbsd 4.9, and resource issues--the samba machine is currently also a sendmail server and I'd like to avoid doing anythin...

Removing Samba+LDAP, replacing W2k3+AD
Four years ago, I migrated our network from Windows NT based servers to Linux, Samba+LDAP based setups. This setup has worked fine. Last year, we replaced our Exchange 5.5 server - the last "real" Windows server - with Scalix. This last decision has come back to bite me. Several new "thingys" that the boss wants, among other things, are forcing me to implement Exchange

Migration of Samba Accounts to Active Directory

I'm having a crack at doing this with Windows Server 2003, and following this guide... http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id2605434 However, when using the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to move a user account across (checking the "Migrate SID" checkbox) I get this error... "Could not verify auditing and TcpipClientSupport on domains. Will not be able to migrate Sid's. The procedure number is out of range." I have ensured the Administrator user and passwo...

Samba interdomain trust with Win2008 AD
...ain trust between a samba server and an win2k8 active directory server. I've established a trust password and object and was able to create a trust relationship from the AD server to the samba server but I'm unable to from the Samba server to the AD server. The purpose of this is to enable ADMT to migrate the user accounts over to AD. While I have been able to query the ldap backend via ldifde and import the users it is only a last resort measure to do that. My aim is to bring the users over with the SID value stored in the AD SIDHistory attribute. (irrelevant details changed) net rpc t...

migrate samba3 to samba4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello list, I have centos 5 server running samba-3.3.7-1 using tdbsam, no ldap. I want to upgrade to samba 4 to implement active directory DC server. What is the smoothest options do I have? If I upgrade using RPM, I must upgrade to centos 6. If I upgrade from source, some libraries from centos 6 is needed. So, I must install new server, perhaps with
