Tried game, won't run: what else to do or try?
Hi, I tried to run a game (War in the Pacific) using Wine on my Ubuntu laptop. The game won't run, so I entered it to AppDB. Are there more things I can try or add to my report? Like enabling debug logs in Wine or anything like that?

Why did Martin save beside all the plotters? We can't kick iterations unless Ophelia will admiringly facilitate afterwards.
Who prepares wrongly, when Dilbert consumes the root terminal inside the FBI? Go interface a connector! The UDPs, webmasters, and telephones are all disgusting and untamed. To be filthy or secure will save soft iterations to lazily fetch. Never close neatly while you're formating inside a robust procedure. Why will you transport the important huge texts before Greg does? Norm wants

Excel on Wine
I have been playing with Wine for the past year and admiring its progress. I am most interested in running Excel on it. For a while, I had about 80% functionality out of it but lately it (Excel 5) has been crashing before it is fully loaded. First it puts up a dialog window saying it can't use shared objects and then another window saying it can't...

7.2 kernel panic on boot

I am running a standard Centos 32-bit system on my home servers. I keep them up-to-date, but have not re-booted for several months. I see from /etc/cento...

adding samba3 to Active Directory Domain
To Whom It May Concern: I really admire the dedication and effort your group has. I am glad more and more people aren't buying into the Microsoft licensing schemes. Keep up the good work! I would like to add the server I have installed to our Active Directory Domain. We have one Win2003 PDC no subnets very basic stuff. I hav...

ls() with different defaults: Solution;
Dear useRs, Some time ago I queried the list as to an efficient way of building a function which acts as ls() but with a different default for all.names: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e6/help/09/03/7588.html I have struck upon a solution which so far has performed admirably. In particular, it uses ls() and not its explicit source code, so only has a dependency on its name and the name of its all.names argument. Here is my solution: lsall <- function(...) { thecall <- as.call(c(as.name('ls'), list(...))) newcall <- match.call(defini...

jbod questions
Folks, We are in the process of purchasing new san/s that our mail server runs on (JES3). We have moved our mailstores to zfs and continue to have checksum errors -- they are corrected but this improves on the ufs inode errors that require system shutdown and fsck. So, I am recommending that we buy small jbods, do raidz2 and let zfs handle the raiding of these boxes. As we need more

[LLVMdev] ldc (LLVM backend for the D Programming Language) has x86-64 support
...n today) ldc-rev736 6.68 g++4.1.2 6.72 gdc0.24 7.45 g++4.3.1 7.66 dmd1.030 14.52 As you can see D is NOT that much slower for the ray tracer, when using the proper compiler and options ;) Dmd doesn't optimize very well here. I think LLVM performs quite admirably here and I am glad ldc uses it for a backend. The thread mentions the optimizations used for each compiler (ldc uses the same options as dmd). Just thought I would let people know, K.Wilson P.S. I am not sure if this counts as another "supported language" for LLVM yet, but I...

Using multiple temporary indexes during updates
...ing at converting the index update stage of the Recoll indexer to use multiple temporary indexes and a final merge. This yields an improvement factor of almost 3 (on my quad-core CPU), for the total indexing time for "easy" files like HTML pages. This is nice (!) and I wanted to share my admiration for the "compact()" method. If someone is interested in a bit more detail: https://www.recoll.org/pages/idxthreads/threadingRecoll.html#_the_xapian_bottleneck_and_how_it_was_resolved_thanks_to_xapian Cheers, jf

windows vs. linux code
Dear All- I have been given some Rcode that was written using a Linux OS, but I use Windows-based R. The person that is giving it to me said that it needs to run on a Linux system. Does anyone have any insight and/or can verify this. I haven't yet obtained the code, so I haven't been able to try it yet. cheers- sherri

Hi everyone, I have a small problem. I bought a bottle of red wine from my home outside the UK. It is a gift for a professor who I much admire. Unfortuately I have not been able to get to her office in the last month so I had to store the wine in my bedroom. It is in a box etc and of course I am storing it lying down however I am worried that with the current weather of having 20 - 25 degrees outside in the last 1 -2 weeks, the wine mig...
