net join & DNS
...NS in AD?
We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing
our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD
does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the
default.
The command we're running is:
net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd

Problem joining samba to a samba-PDC domain
Hi folks,
I'm having difficulty getting a samba server to join a domain, the PDC of
which is another samba server. I believe I've set everything up correctly
but when I run the following command on the "client" samba box
smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U adminuser%adminpasswd
I'm told
error creating domain user: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Unable to join domain DOMAIN.
Looking through the log files on the PDC, I find these entries in the log
file for the samba "client" box:
[2003/03/04 21:47:38, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369)

smbclient from linux to Win2k3 server AD share
...on a Redhat 9 machine that's served
from our W2K3 AD server. We've been banging our heads against this for
quite a while, so I thought it time to run up the white flag and ask
here. We've been trying variations of this:
# mount -t smbfs -o
username=OURDOMAIN\administrator,password=adminpasswd //servername/dfs
/mnt/dfs
and we've been getting
16162: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
SMB connection failed
We're sure we are using the right password, and we have tried
username=administrator and username=OURDOMAIN\administrator, and we know
that the share...

change Active Directory Password with client tools (smbpasswd, net arp) ?
...smbpasswd -r ADSERVERNAME
But now a user forgetts his password, and I want to change it as an user
"ADMINUSER",
who has admin rights in the domain.
Is there a command, weher I can do something like this:
smbpasswd -r ADSERVERNAME USERNAME -U ADMINUSER
The command should print for the ADMINPASSWD of ADMINUSER and for the
new passwd of USERNAME,
who's passwd has to be reset.
net -S ADSERVERNAME -U ADMINUSER rap password USERNAME "" newpass
Does nor work to

cross subnet browsing/domain logon problem
...:
Subnet A
One Samba PDC with encrypted passwords.
One samba file server
Subnet B
One Samba file server (serverB) that is the *local master* for subnet B
with encrypted passwords and security=domain.
I have added serverB to the domain by successfully running smbpasswd -j
DOMAIN -r PDC -U admin%adminpasswd
I can run smbclient //serverB/homes from Subnet A with success.
I can get Windows 9x machines in Subnet A to successfully mount
//serverB/homes via a startup script executed during logon.
I can get a WinXP machine in Subnet B to authenticate against the PDC
however no startup script is executed....
