By the way on a separate but related note, adding --enable-maintiner-mode
introduced a new problem also relating to libdovecot.so.0.0.0 I'll refer
to that in the post script.

Problem with ACL and Samba

me.
Look at this situation:
I created a new directory with those ACLs (through Samba using Windows XP)

Administering a Linux domain member in a NT domain, as a "Domain Admin"
Hello,
After following the winbind-related steps in the SAMBA 3 howto, I was
able to achieve console logins on the Linux workstation by any domain
user; Great!
Now, I've come to the issue of expecting that a "Domain Admin" should be
able to administer the Linux workstation much like a "Domain Admin"
administers a Windows workstation on a domain. I've seen several
examples where the domain admin users are added to the "root" group for
the Linux workstation; the problem is, that most files/commands on the
(Fedora) Linux...

administering an MS Windows partition under Linux
Hi all,
If I have a dual-boot machine (Linux and Windows) would I have any
good tools under Linux that would allow me to look at the content of
the Windows boot partition, administer it, clean up the registry,
remove viruses if any, etc? The Windows installation seems to be so
defective as to be quite useless so I am trying to think of a good
strategy for dealing with the situation.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Boris.

AD administrator can't administer
Over time I have ignored the fact that my AD administrator has stopped
being able to administer. For example, the Ad administrator cannot install
drivers or updates. Once a week now, I logout as workstation user and login
as the "local administrator" to install drivers or run windows updates (in
today's case a printer driver on the works...

Administering SWAT using userid's other than root...
Hi all...
Has anyone got SWAT administration working from other userid's other than
root?
I've got a rh6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7. I have myself (wkim) in the
"domain admin users" and the "admin users". Both the smb.conf file and the
swat binarary are owned by root:swat. I'm a part of group "swat&q...

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?
Hello.
I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone
samba machines (3.x style) locally.
Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one
connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires
auth.
Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb
file directly as long as user r...

Samba 2.2.4 and PRINT$

guest ok = yes
writable = no
printer admin = root
public = yes
and another
[print$]
browsable = no
printable = yes
path = /export/software/printers
guest ok = yes
browseable = yes
read only = yes
write list = Administrator,root
Within my local printcap I have a printer which appears to the Network.
However When I come to login as the user root and run the Add Printer
Wizard, I fail to suceed in adding the printer drivers to the Network.
Any ideas what is happening ?

Problem Administering Permissions on Samba Server
...l support is set to false, any attempt to set
security permissions will fail with an "Access Denied" message. Alas, I
don't know what this means. I have no parameter like this in my smb.conf
nor can I find on in the smb.conf man page.
Any tips will be appreciated.

administering permissions via Windows 2003 Server
Hi,
We have a Linux Release 9 FIle Server with which we are having major
problems controlling file permissions. Even though a directory may have 777
permisions when any attempt to change/add permissions on this directory
(via computer management by admin in Server 2003) this just results in
'access denied' message even though we have full ownership.
We also have a WIndows 2000 terminal

System->Administation->Network
I found quite a bit on google about the problem that "Network" does not
show up under the System->Administration menu any more. All the
solutions seem to indicate that I just need to install
system-config-network-tui, but that doesn't change anything.
I've turn off Network Manager before trying to do any of this because I
want to configure my network offline.
A little push in the right dire...

Can anyone tell me the file / edit location to disable the

# samba-tool user add my-username-here
User 'my-username-here' added successfully
# samba-tool group addmembers 'Domain Admins' my-username-here
Added members to group Domain Admins
# samba-tool dns add localhost example.com testname A 10.0.0.2 -U
my-username-here --password="my-password-here"
