You only need to cover the settings you are using in your GPOs with ADMX
files that define those settings. As long as you don't change your GPOs
(and add new settings), there is no need to update the ADMX files.
If you use Windows tooling (admc) to? create GPOs, it will read the ADMX
files from your sysvol to create the UI. So not updating ADMX files
implies that you will never see the latest settings and hence you will
not use them :-)
I hard ever upgrade them.

printer drivers from windows 7 MMC?
I found a fancy, easy (seeming) way to add printer drivers in windows 7
since the old methods don't seem to work anymore.
if you run mmc, you can add a snapin called print management, which
enables you to manage various things (drivers, forms, ports, and
printers to be most important). Problem is, I can't figure out how to
use the "Drivers" method to add drivers. I get a

Adding group policy ability
Good morning list :)
currently I don't need a group policy, but maybe that will change in the
future - so I'd like to install its ability right now.
As far as I understand https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Group_Policy I
have to execute:
samba-tool gpo admxload -U Administrator
(and samba-tool gpo admxload -H ldap://dcXYZ.samdom.example.com -U
Administrator on additional DCs).

Update A Compiled Version
I'm pretty new to compiling software, although I would rather compile my
own Samba 4.0.0 server rather than wait for it to become available in the
repositories of my distribution. How do you update compiled software. Like
if I compile and install Samba 4.0.0, and then 4.0.1 comes out, Is there a
way to update to that without starting from scratch and having to rebuild
my domain? Thanks

Group Policy alternative (Looking for feedback on a project)
Hello all,
So I am working on a group policy-like system based around Ansible.
Essentially, I am going to use Ansible playbooks as a cross-platform
alternative to the Windows registry and Group Policy Objects (GPOs). In
Samba, the way the group policy is applied is that it reads the set
registry values and then tries to translate that into Linux language.
This is inefficient and limiting as

pam_smbpass.so passdb.tdb support
Hi,
Recently I have installed samba 3.4.8 on my device. Since then ftp
(vsftp, proftpd) which is taking users from samba database with
pam_smbpass.so is not working. After enabling detailed log I have
noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd
(/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size . I think all users passwd
are located in passwd.tdb.I could fix this by giving "passdb

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Hi everyone, new to the list.
My apologies if this issue has already been covered, but I am having the
following problem with Samba:
Using Windows XP as a client, I am trying to see a Solaris system as a
server. Solaris is running Samba 2.4.2, and Windows 2000 sees it as a
server without any problems.
Windows XP, however, generates the error "The network name is no longer
