Enter or quit a samba's domain in pdc
...ame of untraceable user ". The
root account exists well. But on the other hand not the account of the
machine. If I enter well the machine the users samba ( Adduser then
smbpasswd), I manage to enter the domain. Nevertheless, on my smb.conf, I
indeed have this:
add machine script = /srv/samba/addmachine.sh
With the script "addmachine.sh" like that:

/usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -G machines -s /bin/false -M %m$

BDC and password change program
Hello,
Just wondering what I should be using for the password change program on a BDC.
Should it be:
passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u
I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC
with pass backend ldap.
The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23

add machine script almost succeeds
...ell it
to join the domain, after giving it the Admin login and password it
connects up with no problems.
So the next step was to configure Samba to use the script directly by
pointing the "add machine script" parameter in smb.conf to the script:
add machine script = /usr/local/bin/samba-addmachine %u
I restart Samba, then go to the Windows box (XP Pro) and tell it to join
the domain. It asks for the Admin login and password, then after a minute
or so I get an error popup telling me "The user name could not be found."
However, when I look in LDAP I can see that my script did run...

add machine script problem with Fedora core 5
...o manually run the useradd command myself, it works fine, and the
machine is subsequently able to join the domain.
Furthermore, no matter what I specify for the 'add machine script'
parameter, it ALWAYS fails with "gave 82". For example, I tried:
add machine script = /usr/sbin/addMachine.sh
addMachine.sh:
echo "this is a test" > /usr/sbin/test.txt
This script never gets called (test.txt is not created), and the error
log STILL reports "gave 82":

Simple question - Machine / User relationsip
Can someone explain to me the mechanizm that Samba uses to relate
Machines to Users? I am trying to set up a Samba-LDAP PDC and it seems
to work OK but I get "No mapping between account names and security IDs
was done." This would seem to be a simple user/group
ownership/permissions thing. Now I have the following potentially
pertinent ou's:

Trust, users, groups, scripts, etc. questions.
.... The
domains trust each other. A windowsXP pro user logs into TIMES, browses
the network and opens the FAIRFAX domain PDC. As soon as the FAIRFAX
domain is touched, a user (and probably machine, but I haven't tested
this fully) account is set up in LDAP for that user. Obviously the
adduser and addmachine scripts work. I'm going to assume this is the way
this is supposed to work, right?

add machine script problem
Hello
I set up a Samba 3 PDC with ldap backend. I created an script that adds
machine accounts. First it adds the machine account to /etc/passwd and
then it creates the user in ldap with smbpasswd -a -m machine.
If I run the script by hand, it works and the account has been added.
After that I can join the domain without any problems. Now I want to
make this machine account creation on the

Win XP Pro / Linux PDC
Hi all,
I'm trying to configure Samba as a PDC. I'm running Debian Woody, hence
Samba version 3.0.0final-1. We have no Windows servers anywhere on the
network (yay!).
I have done an smbpasswd for root, and add machine script is setup (see
attached smb.conf). From the XP Pro workstation, when I fill in the domain
name, log in as root, and click ok, I eventually get: "The following
