Joining Samba 3.24 to 2003 ADS
...cept when I try to run 'getent passwd' or
'getent group' only local users/groups are listed.
I was able to join the domain: net ads join -U admin_user
The system shows up in AD under computers on the PDC.
Afterwards if I do wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g, wbinfo -p, wbinfo -t, wbinfo -a
ad_user%password
All of those appear to work correctly.
This however seems somewhat fishy, it says "Active Directory: No":
'wbinfo -D domain.com'
Name : DOMAIN
Alt_Name : DOMAIN.COM
SID : S-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Active Directory : No

centos samba sssd active directory
...ssdb backend = tdbsam
kerberos method = secrets and keytab
winbind enum users = yes
winbind enum groups = yes
winbind nested groups = yes
winbind refresh tickets = yes
To use the "valid users" directive, I have to deal with the AD SIDs. You can get it by running :
$ wbinfo --name-to-sid ad_user
$ wbinfo --name-to-sid ad_group
The RID idmap backend doesn't work as expected. So I use the NSS backend :
idmap config MYDOMAIN : backend = nss
idmap config MYDOMAIN : range = 10000-99999
idmap config * : backend = tdb
idmap config * : range = 100000-999999
And in /etc/nsswitch.conf :

smbd interoperability with sssd on Kerberos no winbind

SAMBA using existing users and passwords on Linux
Hello Rowland. Thanks for answering.
The linux server is already in the AD domain and resolving Ad users as
normal.
To map the linux server share using AD users I use the following command:
net use \\linuxserver\share /U:AD_user
and it works perfectly.
But I would like to use the same command for users who are in /etc/passwd,
like this:
net use \\linuxserver\share /U:linuxserver_user
and so it doesn't work, it gives an invalid user error.
To work with users who are in /etc/passwd I have to use the following
comman...

Samba AD and Dovecot
Hello All,
I haven't seen the answer to this, maybe I am just using the wrong
searches. I have two queries related to this:
1) I have seen how to configure for LDAP and Kerberos. AD uses both
together. All user information is in AD/LDAP and authentication is
AD/Kerberos. How can I configure Dovecot to use both appropriately?
2) I can cause Samba to create certain directories on login, etc.

SAMBA using existing users and passwords on Linux
Hello everyone.
I'm back because I decided to follow your advice and deploy the system
using a new version of SAMBA with encrypted passwords.
I added the SAMBA server in the AD domain without any problems and I am
already accessing the shares with AD users.
However I have a new problem for which I need help.
When I try to access SAMBA shares with local Linux users, it is necessary
to include
