Kernel not mounting root
...yesterday, build, installed and booted a new
kernel then buildworld.
Then I noticed that my PS/2 keyboard is not working at the loader menu
so I booted multiuser and did the make installworld part from there.
Then I tried to reboot but now it hangs after the line
Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad4s1a
It sits there for at least 10min. I tried so far:
- Installing 7.1-beta2 on another hd and booting it, it works.
- Copied that kernel to the old hd
- Moved kernel.old to kernel
- fsck everything
- mounted everything from the old hd under /mnt, chroot into that, installworld

Can't boot from ad4: Device Not Configured?
...rives from
the slow built-in IDE controller to
a faster PCI card (Promise ULTRA TX2).
The boot loader succesfully loads the
kernel, and the kernel succesfully probes
the Promise controller and the hard
disk connected to it.
But the root mount fails with error 6,
even after I type in "ufs:/dev/ad4s1a"
I looked through the kernel config files
and LINT and could find nothing that
seemed relevant.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.

anyway?
And now for the question..
I have a test server that is being used to test a 4.4-REL to 4.8-STABLE
upgrade, and I've found the system will no longer boot unless I load a
saved 4.4-REL kernel. The error I get is along the lines of:
Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad4s1a
Root mount failed: 16
At first I got this error using a custom kernel configuration known as WWW,
but after getting this error I built a new kernel based on GENERIC:
# cd /usr/src
# make update
# make buildkernel
# make installkernel
# reboot
Per /usr/src/UPDATING there was a change in the ATA...

[FreeBSD] Fix for ServerWorks HT1000 in upcoming 7.1?
Hi,
I have a server (Dell PowerEdge SC1435, ServerWorks HT1000) on which
I'd like to try installing FreeBSD. I've already failed to make 7.0
work on this box and was wondering if you have information about the
behavior of the upcoming 7.1 on this hardware.
I've been following the "HT1000 chipset errata saga" thread, and the
commits by sos@ to CVS (around Jan 2008), but have

Ok, so I ran fsck manually (even with -y), but yet it refuses to clear/fix
whatever to the questions posed as fsck runs. What does this all mean?
Thanks,
