ad0: READ command timeout....
This morning I found a frozen box. On the console was this:
ad0: READ command timeout tag=0 serv=0 - resetting
ata0: resetting devices .. ata0-slave: ATA identify retries exceeded
done
After reboot, those messages were found in /var/log/messages.
I'm running FreeBSD 4.8-RC from Apr 4 10:45:49 EST 2003.
Any ideas?

Hard Drive size not correctly being Detected on Dell 8100
Hello,
I didn't recieve a response on freebsd-mobile, so I'm trying here.
I'm trying to install FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE or 5.0-RELEASE onto my Dell
Inspirion 8100. I'mjust doing a Standard installation and when FDisk loads I
get:
Disk name: ad0
DISK Geometry: 88 cyls/255 heads/63 sectors = 1413720 sectors (690MB)
So I go and manually change the drive geometry with the G option and it
shows the windows 2000 NTFS partition as 692Mb instead of 9.76Gb that it
really is.
I found the HD model number with Google on someone elses dmesg and got...

DMA related disc issues
...just general usage.
I initially assumed that it was a loose cable and so opened the box up and
re-seated the cables. After this the machine worked fine again for maybe 12
hours but then encountered the same type of errors which start with stuff
along the lines of:
Sep 26 05:59:35 www /kernel: ad0: READ command timeout tag=0 serv=0 -
resetting
Sep 26 05:59:35 www /kernel: ata0: resetting devices .. ad0: DMA limited to

After a few of these the machine stops being able to access its drives and
eventually either reboots or hangs.

Can't boot with a new install
Hi everyone,
I just finished installing FreeBSD 6 RELEASE on my Toshiba Tecra A4
laptop and the installation was fine, however, when I rebooted the
machine, I don't get the boot loader screen as if the machine can not
see my drive! I tried the reinstalling and ensured that I set the slice
to be bootable but that didn't change anything.
Not sure if this is a common issue with FreeBSD 6 on

Dell PE600SC with ServerWorks CSB6
Hello!
Has anyone gotten 4.9R to recognize the "ServerWorks CSB6" ATA
controller on a Dell 600SC? How about installing 5.2R on a 600SC? 5.2R
recognizes the said controller, but it corrupts data.

Okay, so like this?

PHONE3+AD0-SIP/4000
ALL+AD0AJAB7-PHONE1+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE2+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE3+AH0-
Then you would have

Is that right?
I have read about the Macros but don't understand their use. Could
someone provide an example?...

Urgent FreeBSD Boot question!
Dear friends:
I decided to go out and buy the latest issue of Linux Format with the
FreeBSD 6 CD. I am very glad I did. FreeBSD is tough to install, but
after spending several hours I finally succeeded in doing a perfect
installation. ONE BIG PROBLEM: When I removed the CD and rebooted, I got
into my Windows XP (I have two separate disks, one for Windows, one of
FreeBSD). There was no way to get

Hi,
I have recently bought a new disk (Seagate 500G, ST3500320NS). I have
enabled SMART checking using the smartmontools as usual for the disk

is that each time the test runs I get messages like the following in
