Latex no where to be seen
I'm experimenting using R as a report writer. I'm told LaTex is the
destination for my quest. But ?latex() gives me an error. The package
manager does not have it. The package installer can't find it. Where is it?
It amazes me that there's not a built in "report" function that can produce
the same kinds of reports that every report writer and data analysis

Fukuoka Ruby Award--about $10,000 for first prize
I am working with the Government of Fukuoka, Japan to get the word out
about the Fukuoka Ruby Award to Ruby developers in the US. It is free
to apply for this award. The top prize is about $10,000. Deadline is
December 25, so there is not much time, but the application is fairly
simple for developers who have existing projects. Here are the
details:

SV: I can hear only one way when I use nokia e-60withX-lite
Hello Olivier
Ive been testing the E61 phone for some days now, and we need to have an inhouse asterisk server, connected to our main asterisk server, to get it to work.
That means, that you cant just walk down to your local airport, and use the IP part of the phone on their network.
You have to have a non nat local server, to get it to run.
Other than that, the phone can accept calls both

R as controller
...ll,
this may be a 'stupid' question, but it would be great if it exists. What's it about? For the control of experiments, special (and expensive) software is often necessary. The main 'difficulty' I have is to read data from different (measurement) devices and send them to some actuators (reading from a serial device and the protocols). Is there a package in R for reading and writing to a serial port, including the protocols for ADAM modules etc? Or is there anyone having plans to program such a package? If it would exist, R could be as a controller, which would make life much easi...

That's just the thing, and it sucks, because the VoIP implementation actually works very good.

Fax Configuration
What is the best way for me to setup Fax Capability with VOIP only.
I have a Asterisk Server hosted on the internet without a modem. I'm
using Flowroute, which is working awesome, for VOIP calls.
I only have a SIP Phone at home and two Printer/Scanner/Fax Printers.
I'm not sure which Fax Addons or Extensions I should use for Asterisk.
I'd like it to Self Detect on any line.

Force Feedback / Vibration
Hello,
I bought a steering wheel for racing games some time ago (a SpeedLink Darkfire). Works great in wine, but no vibration. Actually it works if I use fftest. Just not in wine.
I use Ubuntu 11.04, wine 1.3.28 (which is the most recent development version right now). The wheel is connected by USB. Wine also says something about it:
Code:

AutoCAD 2000 Network Install woes . . .
Has anybody run into install troubles on AutoCAD 2000 network
version? The server is Samba 2.0.3 on Solaris 2.7 intel.
Install went fine, but when i try to do a client setup I get an odd
message about there being insufficient disk space. The installation is one
of "Run from network", which should require relatively little space on the
client (the client in question has nearly 400 megs

Possible Filesystem Corruption with Samba 3.0.25a (with XFS and LVM)
Hello!
A few days ago I received a filesystem memory corruption notification
from Debian's Linux kernel (2.6.20), which automatically unmounted my
root partition. Upon closer investigation, I found that something had
overwritten most of my data, XFS's superblocks and other metadata
structures. That means from partition offset 0x200. At the time of the
error, the only services I was using

Supported version of Samba for commercial use.
Dear Sirs.
We have csv reports that are created on a unix server automatically via a
cron job. We are looking at putting these reports in a shared area / work
out a way of sharing a unix device to windows machine like mapping a network
drive. The only product we have found that can possibly do this is samba.
Because we are a large company ('BRITISH TELECOM') we really need a version

System freeze if mount cifs share with option "hard", and samba server is not available
I know "hard" means command will hang if network is broken. But it seems that's not actuate. It's CPU that will hang.
Affected scope:
I tested it against CentOS 5/6/7, it can be reproduced on all the systems. the debug logs below are captured from CentOS 7 (cifs.ko v2.05)
How to reproduce this problem?
1. mount a cifs share with option "hard"
2. stop samba

Dealing With Extremely Large Files
Hi,
I'm sure that a large fixed width file, such as 300 million rows and 1,000
columns, is too large for R to handle on a PC, but are there ways to deal
with it?
For example, is there a way to combine some sampling method with read.fwf so
that you can read in a sample of 100,000 records, for example?
Something like this may make analysis possible.
Once analyzed, is there a way to, say, read

Workshop on Internet of Things ? IoT
Internet of Things (IoT) only take off if combined with cloud computing and with a big ?mountain? of sensors and actuators embedded in the environment able to collect, monitor and transfer data from real objects to databases or caches and vice-versa. This huge quantity of information generated by sensors, or targeted at actuators, should be streamed to any number of devices and services just in time. This means that th...
