pop3_lock_session and NFS
Hello,
I need an advice about POP3 and NFS with Dovecot 1.0 (as 1.1 is still
tagged beta) .
I currently have all messages and indexes under a NFS partition . I
thus turned cache off using actimeo=0 .
Of course, my current architecture does not allow me to keep the same
user on the same dovecot server.
Now, I have some NFS issues with high percentages of getattr() .
If I understood well, the cache must be disabled, because of the case
of 2 differents computers could log on the same time a...

The INBOXes and folders live on the mail server where
a) DC is going to run and
b) they are exported to the three other machine.
Does this mean that I don't have to mess with actimeo?
3) Pardon my ignorance....Is actimeo set on the NFS server as an
attribute of exportation or on the NFS client on the imported FS...or both
4) Is there any reason related to data integrity or performance to
prefer NFS V2 or 3 or 4?
5) Are there other questions I should ask of IBM about NFS clien...

nfs, dovecot, and maildirs
....
Is it now possible to reliably store index files over nfs?
If not, the alternative is keeping index files in memory, or on local disk -
on each server. How big of a performance hit is this if imap connections
are round-robined between imap servers?
I've seen various people using different actimeo settings, some set at 0,
some slightly higher - as much as 30. Can anyone speak on experience they
have had with netapps on this subject?
The following sound like they are required:
mmap_disable=yes
lock_method=dotlock
Has anyone been successful with fnctl() on netapps with dovecot?
Thanks in...

Mount options and NFS: just checking...
...0 servers on which Dovecot 1.0.3 is
running. Users are normally directed to their "preferred" server
but, if it is unavailable, will go via the other server.
Q1. Am I right in thinking that for the Message Store and Control Files
I should NFS-mount both of them with the "actimeo=0"?
(Or would "noac" be better, which also turns off client write-
caching
as well as the attribute cache?)
Q2. Should I NFS-mount either or both of the Message Store and
Control Files
with the "noxattr" option to turn off extended attributes?

netapp/maildir/dovecot performance
...formance problem manifests as very high system% utilization -
basically iowait for NFS.
There are two imap servers with plenty of horsepower/memory/etc. They
are connected to a 3050c cluster via gig-e. Here are the mount
options: rw,tcp,nfsvers=3,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nosuid,nodev,soft,intr,noac,actimeo=0
I need to get this system% utilization brought down because it is
starting to slowdown imap performance for other users (it goes up to
95% on a regular basis, with users that have folders with many
messages).
My thought is to try removing the noac option and bump up the actimeo
value from 0 to...

Corrupted index cache file dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size
Hi,
Our dovecot setup consists of two hosts running dovecot-1.0.beta9 with
Maildir/indices stored on NFS(noac,actimeo=0 used).
I am seeing these messages at times - but no real problems on the client
side. Is this something to worry about?

Our work load consists of mainly large number of small files.
I know there many possible factors going on here. So I'm wondering if there

File copy operation blocks on Samba share
...I am running a server with cifs-utils 6.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 trusty with a CIFS
mount as follows:
//server/share /mnt/Share cifs
rw,relatime,vers=1.0,cache=strict,username=myuser,domain=EXAMPLE,uid=0,noforceuid,gid=0,noforcegid,addr=192.168.0.8,unix,posixpaths,serverino,acl,rsize=1048576,wsize=65536,actimeo=1

I am using perl's File::Copy function to copy several hundred files from the
share to the local ext4 filesystem:
cp($src, $dst, 32128);
This works fine for almost all of the files, however the perl script always
blocks in uninterruptable sleep on one file in particular. If I strace it,...

Correction: the /etc/fstab nfs mount line has one more zero:
