shell.exec() on Windows, unexpected behavior
I have Windows XP machines with different software configurations. My laptop has Adobe Reader 8 and Adobe Acrobat 6. My desktop has Adobe Reader 8 and does not have Adobe Acrobat. On both machines, PDF extensions are registered to Adobe Reader 8.0, and double-clicking a pdf file in Windows Explorer opens Adobe Reader 8.0. In R-2.5.0, with all Adobe windows closed, the command shell.exec('c:/Program Fil...

Acrobat Reader broken on CentOS 4.3
I have had Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed on my CentOS 4.2 desktop and it worked fine. After upgrading to 4.3, I can't get it to come up anymore. I downloaded Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and it does the same. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to look for, since the executable and the startup scripts are not...

Unwanted white borders on semi-transparent polygons?
...n alpha channel of 1 produces an opaque polygon! :S I have read the FAQ, and (unfortunately) turning off line-art smoothing does not give the desired effect. Furthermore, my pdfs print with a white border surrounding each transparent polygon. Now, here comes the really bizarre part. Whilst Adobe Acrobat displays the unwanted white border, Apple Preview respects the "border=NA" argument and shows the two diamonds as they are intended. However, opening up the pdf in Illustrator CS reveals that there is in fact a transparent (according to Illustrator) border *on top* of each diamond. Delet...

Acrobat Reader won't start from a applications
I have installed a software working fine with WINE (some special financial software from my company I work for) but I can't get Acrobat Reader to launch, when I try to open a pdf File from that application. Acrobat is installed. On the console I get this message: Code: fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100 Same when I try that: Code: wine start "%ProgramFiles%/Adobe/Reader 8.0/Reader/Legal/en_US/license.ht...

OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi, this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the following in the samba log: [2010/12/07 18:29:50, 2] lib/access.c:check_access(323) Allowed connection from (x.x.x.x) [2010/12/07 18:29:50, 2] smbd/reply.c...

Acrobat Reader version for CentOS 3?
Having had a working version of Acrobat Reader, I upgraded to 7.0.5 a couple of days ago (without backing up the previous install, of course). Unfortunately, the acroread command fails with: GTK+ UI Toolkit libraries, ver. 2.4 or greater were not found. The (CentOS 3) standard libraries for gtk+ etc. are installed. Anyone know what i...

Download "Asterisk: The Future Of Telephony"
...39;m hosting a mirror of the book "Asterisk: The Future Of Telephony" by O'Reilly Press, published under the Creative Commons license; I believe this license allows me to do this, but if I'm mistaken, please let me know. I've taken the liberty of fixing the page numbers so Acrobat is now aware of the correct number of each page, and shrinking the filesize with Acrobat's "Reduce File Size" tool (while still maintaining compatibility with Acrobat 4.0, apparently). I bought a paper copy before I knew the book was available online, but it's good enough tha...

How to Install Acrobat Upgrade
Hello, I'm relatively new to this wonderful forum. Kudos to the Wine Development Team. I did a search on my question, but couldn't find the answer. So please forgive me if this topic has come up before... I'm currently running Wine 0.9.58. I have an Adobe Acrobat 4.0 installation disk with an Acrobat 6.0 upgrade disk (both properly licensed). I can install 4.0 without a problem; however, the 6.0 upgrade never completes. What is the preferred method for installing an upgrade to a Windows app? I know someone who has the same question regarding upgrading Mi...

Acessing pdf help files (PR#13419)
Full_Name: Marc Thibault Version: 2.8.1 OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 Submission from: (NULL) (216.104.125.106) I had Adobe Acrobat 5 and Adobe Reader 9 installed. The .pdf "open" association is to Reader. When I selected "Help | Manuals(in pdf) | An Introduction to R", it brought up the file in Acrobat instead of Reader. After making sure the default associations were correctly pointing to Reader, I took...

JDF library in wine?
Hello all, I wonder if there is a way to set up the so-called JDF library required by several Adobe software? I haven't been able to find out what it is, nor whether wine has any way to set this up, or even if I can copy windows DLL's over. I can get Adobe Acrobat 7.0 to run, for example, but many actions fail with the error "cannot initialize JDF library". Any enlightenment happily accepted. adding LPT port to wine? Acrobat 5/PDFWriter installation problem
hi all, I'm using the official wine-20041201-0.1 on Sue 9.1 (i386). I used winetools 2.10 to facilitate my wine installation and it was a godsand. I have installed Office 2000 and so far so good, but I like to extend my wine functionality just a bit more. I like to install Acrobat 5 (not reader) with PDFWriter on my wine installation. The problem I have is that, during the installation, I get the following error message: "Acrobat PDFWriter requires a LPT1: printer port. Setup could not find this required port. The PDFWriter component will not be installed. To in...

"Insufficient memory to perform operation"- acrobat 5 paper-capture plugin
Hello, I happily use Wine with Acrobat Writer 5.0. The application itself runs fine without any restrictions (only during installation: the shift-key must be held down during first startup, then auto-update must be deactivated in the options). Unfortunately the "Paper Capture"-plugin (for OCR on PDFs) does not run. It insta...

Adobe Acrobat 5.0/wine???
Hi! Is it possible to run Acrobar Reader 5.0 with wine under Linux? If so, what do I have to do? I installed Acrobat 5.0 under Windows 98 (and it works), but it won't work using wine under Linux (which I would prefer because I usually do not run Windows). Any help? Cheers, Bogislav

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr
